https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/17/energ...ces/index.htmlCalifornia's $6 gas could spread nationwide, JPMorgan warns
The average price for gasoline in California hit $6 a gallon Tuesday for the first time -- and analysts at JPMorgan are warning that price could be the national average before the end of the summer.
The startling forecast comes as US gas prices have surged to record highs in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, casting a shadow over the economy.
"There is a real risk the price could reach $6+ a gallon by August," Natasha Kaneva, head of global oil and commodities research at JPMorgan, told CNN in an email on Tuesday.

It’s getting pretty bad. It’s going to take a recession to reset it all, which is unfortunate. It feels like 2008, when oil prices hit $150ish and natural gas hit over $10. Hopefully this time there isn’t a housing crisis that follows (there won’t be).
Oil companies are maxed out. They would drill more if they could. I was at lunch’s it’s a good friend who works at a small O&G company (private) and they are distributing cash to their investors at record levels. They operate one rig and would pick up a second if they could but it’s not practical and their investors don’t want them to.
Between supply chain delays (drill pipe is about two month lead time) and investors wanting higher dividends and the lack of institutional investors for O&G expansion it’ll take demand destruction to fix it. That means a recession. Let’s just hope inflation cools down at the same time or it’ll get ugly."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. "Less poor people" meaning those who are slightly above the poverty line? Why do you prefer them jamming up the roads?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Posthttps://www.cnn.com/2022/05/17/energ...ces/index.html

Is there a "What's right with Washington state" thread?
Gas stations in Washington are thinking ahead and getting prepared for memorial day weekend:
https://nypost.com/2022/05/19/washin...n-out-of-fuel/Washington state gas stations run out of fuel, prep for $10 a gallon
Gas stations in Washington state are resetting their price boards to accommodate double digits in preparation for fuel prices potentially reaching $10 a gallon, according to a report.
The move comes as several gas stations in the Evergreen State ran out of fuel, the Post Millennial reported.
At the 76 gas station in Auburn, about 30 miles south of Seattle, gas pumps were reprogrammed so the display could indicate a price of at least $10 a gallon.

Y'all get your electric cars yet? It is time for an "incredible transition"!
https://nypost.com/2022/05/23/biden-...le-transition/Biden praises high gas prices as part of ‘incredible transition’
Out of touch as ever, President Biden celebrated record-high gas prices Monday, gushing that the pump pain was part of “an incredible transition” of the US economy away from fossil fuels.
“[When] it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over,” Biden said during a press conference in Japan following his meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The president then insisted that his administration’s actions, rather than increasing the price of gas, had actually been able to “keep it from getting worse — and it’s bad.”
Only then did Biden pay lip service to millions of Americans who have found themselves spending thousands of extra dollars to fuel up their vehicles.
“The price of gas at the pump is something that I told you — you heard me say before — it would be a matter of great discussion at my kitchen table when I was a kid growing up,” Biden said before admitting, “It’s affecting a lot of families.”
As Biden spoke, the average cost of a gallon of gas nationwide sat at $4.596 per gallon. Several states are seeing an average cost of more than $5, while California’s average cost sits just above $6, according to AAA.

I read it is ok now to end a sentence with a preposition, especially for casual english, but leaving it there requires 48 more bits of data (assuming 16-bit unicode, or UTF-16, encoding) and even more for UTF-32. So my vote is to take it off.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Bo paid $8.71 per gallon and Mo paid $8.51. Considering what it was when I lived in Germany over 20 years ago, I would say that we here in the States are closing the gap.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman
