Traveling to my brother's place northwest of Tucson. Don't plan on gassing up until Tempe. There happens to be a Costco right off the 10, regular is 1.95, premium will be 2.15. Vegas gas is ripoff right now.

The season is the reason. Lots of " over the river and through the woods" going on now.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostI paid $2.54 for diesel last Friday, and today at the same station I filled up for $2.99
I'd be curious as to the reasons.

The manager of the Costco near me lives up the street. He told me Costco has a policy that they cap the markup on everything they sell. The other gas stations are waiting for the next guy to lower prices, so they're pretty similar to each other on the way down. They're just grabbing more profit per gallon while more people are travelling for the holidays, but they'll eventually settle in ten cents higher than Costco.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostCostco is usually 10-12 cents cheaper than the other stations around here in Utah. Lately it's been 30 cents cheaper. Is it just taking the other stations that much longer to move more expensive stock?
Costco in my area is, on average, 30 cents cheaper than almost everyone else. The lines are straight out of the 70s. I have to get premium, and there's this commercial fueling station close to my house where the premium is only 10 cents more. Needless to say, that's where I've been fueling up. I refuse to wait in a gas line to save ten cents per gallon.

Huh? Just reporting the fact, ma'am. I grew up in Bountiful and have lived in Centerville the past 18 years. So who are you saying is low income, Centerville or Bountiful?Originally posted by old_gregg View Postblatant low income pro-bountiful trolling

Crude has had an incredible run the past 3.5 years. O&G companies have made a ton of money and so have the oil field service companies that support them. Obviously no one knows if the high prices (over $100) will come back, but if they do it would be a good sign for the world economy. The US is in a good position right now with prices just high enough to continue drilling, the US economy staying strong and the world economy in a bit of shambles. That allows us to chug along while crude demand is down.
Back when prices for crude were dropping, many people were setting arbitrary floors. Some said $70 and some said $60. There was one notable trader (that I'd trust as much as anyone else) that put the range between $55-$75 and we are right now hovering just above the low end of his range. Obviously no one knows or can predict the floor, but most people now think we've hit it....barring any really bad economic news. If crude goes below $50 and stays there for a while then many of the medium sized O&G companies will be in trouble (trouble meaning they'll likely get bought out if they have desirable leases or they just go under if their land sucks).
I'd be really surprised to see gasoline prices stay below $2 anywhere. Granted there is no 1:1 correlation between crude and gasoline prices, but there is a correlation, so as crude prices stabilize I'd expect gasoline to stabilize. Gasoline prices are seasonal in that they'll go up in the late spring even if crude stays the same.

$2.54 at the tower mart here in town. No Costco gas station for miles around.

Still $2.50-ish at stations in Centerville. $2.03 at Costco in Bountiful. Anyone filling up at a station in Centerville is a rube.
