I played with a Fire last night for the first time. Pleasantly surprised. Though with the rumored Kindle Ice coming I'll wait and see.

What Ultrabooks Could Do To The Tablet Craze
This guy makes some good points. I must admit, I love my iPad, but while I was in the Apple story over the holidays I handled a MacBook Air and started wondering if that wouldn’t be better. It weighs almost nothing, its screen is just as beautiful as an iPad’s, it has a standard keyboard, and it can do all the things a powerful laptop can do.

Personally, I would much rather have a Macbook Air than an iPad six days of the week. However, on the 7th day I always use the iPad. There is no way I would take a Macbook Air to church. So I think you should have both."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

All Apple: MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad. Why not? And I don't even own stock.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostPersonally, I would much rather have a Macbook Air than an iPad six days of the week. What do you apple people think of the Mac Mini? We are in the market for a desktop and this seems like it would work fine for our needs. Any thoughts??"Be a philosopher. We have a few staffers at my office that have either the Mac Mini or the PC equivalent (not sure what the Dell one is called...Zino, I think). The advantages of price and size are negated somewhat by performance, but for their uses, the minis seem to work just fine. The newest minis have pretty decent sized hard drives and quad core processors, so if you are looking to mostly check email and read the Internet, you should be more than fine, especially at that price. I'm sure you realize that you have to provide your own screen, mouse, and keyboard so if you don't have some that you like, the cost to get them also negates the value of the mini somewhat. And in fairness, it seems like computer places are always running deals on package setups that include everything and that are just as powerful as the mini.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I've considered buying a mac mini for the tv in my living room. I really wanted it so I could watch Netflix, youtube, iTunes and other videos in the living room but now I don't need one because the Apple TV does all of that."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

And don't forget to get a Macbook air for trips and a Mac Pro with 12 cores and 64GB of RAM for the few times you need the power.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostAll Apple: MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad. Our main goal is what you say but also have a computer for pictures and slideshows. We don't play computer games and the extent of word files are things for church and stuff. I would love the I life suite. Iphoto and Imovie are really cool.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWe have a few staffers at my office that have either the Mac Mini or the PC equivalent (not sure what the Dell one is called...Zino, I think). The Mac Mini is a great machine for the family. I would recommend that you get at least 4GB of RAM, however. Apps these days eat a lot of memory and the system will run faster if it doesn't have to do a lot of "paging" to the hard drive.
I don't know if you have noticed but the new mac minis don't include DVD drives. For software that is not a problem (it is all installed over the internet). You can, however, purchase a external one that plugs into one of the USB ports. Given that you may be buying a new display you may want to just consider getting one of the lower end iMacs instead.
I would also recommend getting a Magic Trackpad to take advantage of the gesture support in Mac OS X."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

The Magic Trackpad is the greatest thing Apple has ever invented IMO. It makes use of my MBP and Mac Pro heavenly. So many gestures. I constantly find myself trying to do the same on my Lenovo laptop.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostThe Mac Mini is a great machine for the family.
