Nothing beats the Central Coast. Great weather without all the crowds and urban decay.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I love Utah and at times miss it a great deal, but likely will never return to live there. This really baffles most people in our Ward. They can't fathom why I wouldn't return to Zion! The reality is I live in a great part of the world. Well, I'd much rather live in Toronto as opposed to suburbia but we chose our little city and neighborhood very carefully and couldn't be more blessed with a great youth group, Ward, grade school and highschool etc.

40 minutes west of me I've got all the entertainment the 4th largest city in North America has to offer and an hour and ten minutes north of me I've got my wife's family cottage:

There are thousands of lakes like the one above within a two, three, or four hour drive. Originally we came up here so I could go to school. The truth is I knew early in high school that I would not marry a Utah girl. Staying here after I finished my education was a forgone conclusion.

One day my wife and I will live somewhere else. I actively look for teaching opportunities overseas.

Even though I hate the Rexburg winters I still love it around here. We only have eight months of golf weather but during those months I can run out to the course and almost always get right on. I have miles and miles of empty farm roads to ride my bike. On a Sunday morning before church I have a forty mile loop and I may have five cars pass me and they are headed to church. I like knowing the parents of the kids my boys are running around with. Grand Targhee on a clear spring day can't be beat for skiing. The winters will eventually drive me out of here to St. George or No. Cal but it's been a good place to raise a family.

          Your winters are intolerable.

This past one in particular. Regardless, it's a great place to live.

I'm a slave to my job. I live where I'm told.

Having no roots, we've talked several times over the years about where we will finally settle down after retirement. For the longest time I wanted to go back to Utah, and still do to some extent. Knowing SU will be "far" away makes it that much more appealing.

But I suspect we'll end up somewhere in the hills of Eastern Tennessee close to Mrs. myboynoah's family.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I live where I do because I love the sounds of gunshots and helicopters (the two go together like peanut butter and jelly).

I remembered when we lived in Austin, everyone in the ward swore they would never live in Utah. They were pretty similar to FMCoug-style attitude. Ironically, almost every single one of them ended up in Utah eventually.

We moved to Mississippi so we could better understand what the Baptist family feels like when they move into a neighborhood in Sandy. That and danimal found a job here that seemed to fit what he wanted, plus would pay back his student loans and a few other perks in order to get him here.

We plan on moving back west eventually so that we can be closer to our family. Unfortunately, the damage will probably be done by then. My kids are already picking up a Southern accent. Ugh!
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Some friendly advice: Stay far from Utah. The West is big, very big.

My family is in California and Wyoming. His are all in Utah. We don't have any desire to move to any of those states. Maybe Colorado?

                          Lots of self-loathing here. Sad.

We live in Utah because we like it here.

I spent 4 years in New York and am glad that I had the opportunity to go to school there. But I hated the political atmosphere - too much hostility and intolerance toward those of us that are not left wing.

I spent 3 years in Orange County and while I liked it and could see living there again, it just wasn't the right place for me to stay. The political atmosphere was much more accommodating - meaning those on the left didn't despise me or my point of view.

I like AZ and have thought about moving back there, but the Summers are nearly as intolerable as are the winters elsewhere.

It has changed drastically. I have spoken to many people here who are still mad at you.
