I get that In N Out is over hyped, but what fast food joint is better? Wendy's? Mcdonald's? Burger king? Certainly not Shake Shack (talk about terrible fries).

I like their fries, hot or cold. I like yukon gold fries. I know I'm in the minority there. The In N Out spread is good. It doesn't beat a good greasy spoon diner burger, but it's tough to beat in the drive thru arena.

That’s exactly right. It’s good grease shack fare. If you’re looking for Michelin stars look elsewhere.

When it comes to chains, McDonalds fries are better. Whopper is a better burger. Five Guys beats them all.

The whopper? GTFOH. I find Five guys to be a super bland burger. You can dress it up all you want, but the burger is a blank slate.

I’d go to any of the above over In n Out. I’d go to Arby’s before In n Out.

Freddy's is better. But their fries are worse - little skinny things. Although they have real onion rings that are very good, and the best fry sauce around.

In n out is awesome. I even am ok with the fries

I hear people say they prefer mcdonalds burgers to in n out and that does more to boggle my mind than just about anything

We have a In-n-Out within a mile of our house... never go to it since there is a what-a-burger and Shake Shack behind it. Shake Shack's fries are terrible. They remind me of the frozen fries they would feed us in grade school, surplus frozen USDA crap. In-n-out's fries are worse.

Edit: But I guess people from NY like those crap frozen fries: https://www.mashed.com/219296/the-un...-shacks-fries/

Freddy's Steak burger? There is one behind my mom's house but I've never tried. I don't mind shoe string fries, but I usually only have them with buffalo wings.

I don’t mind Freddy’s burgers but I like their fries. I may even like them the most of all fast food burger places, but I like my fries crispy and the Freddy shoestring fries are great. It’s also the only place I can get decent fry sauce in Texas.

I’d say that five guys is my favorite burger place mainly because the one by us does a really good job.

I've always thought 5 Guys had great burgers. I'm not sure I understand what you expect from a patty of ground beef. What is it about the patty of ground beef and cooking method at your favorite place (I guess that's In N Out?) that makes it so much better than 5 Guys? Is it because you get the patty cooked animal style at In N Out? Do they add some kind of seasoning that 5 Guys doesn't? Or is there something in the quality of the ground beef itself that you can taste that makes it different?

                                I'm genuinely curious...
