What to do in New Orleans??

I just found out that I will be in New Orleans on Monday thru Thursday. I will be at the Renaissance New Orleans Arts Hotel but spending most of my time at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel on Canal St. for a conference.

Any good places to get good food etc would be nice. Not sure if I will be able to get out, but we'll see..

The last time I was in New Orleans, we ate at Brennans, which is pretty famous and a memorable place to go for a big 10 AM meal that can double as breakfast and lunch. http://www.brennansneworleans.com/

Oh yeah, we always hit Cafe Du Monde -- that is a must.

I'm going to a conference in New Orleans in September and it's not soon enough for a beignet and hot chocolate from CDM.

Buddy of mine is having a bachelor weekend (not to be confused with a fully debauched 'bachelor party' ... so he says) and rented out this absolutely ridiculous ante bellum pad in the Garden District. I'm sitting on the patio next to the pool between the 2,000 square foot carriage house and the 6,000 square foot mansion right now, ridiculous opulence...and it's costing each of us only $100 a night.

I appreciate all the restaurant tips as well.

I am also looking to take in some historic buildings etc. Including some of the Katrina stuff. So if there is some places to go for this near downtown please let me know.. I plan on bringing a camera..

Po' Boys at a well-known place called the Parkway Bakery - the Alligator Sausage (never would have tried it if they hadn't recommended so strongly) was delicious.

As for other recs... will be sampling some stuff in the next couple of days so I'll let you know.

Mother's restaurant. Get the famous ferdi special, or at least a shrimp po boy.

Also, I recommend Central Grocery. The muffulettas are really great.

Staying at the Reniassance New Orleans Arts Hotel. Right by Mothers.. Will check it out.. This week there are over 27,000 Lutheran Teens cruising the Big Easy.. Mothers has been a hot place and lines down the road so I have not gone there...

Did go to Cafe De Munde (Hmmmmmm Yummy)..

Went to Deane's Seafood. Had their catfish plate for lunch and it was HUGE!!! Tomorro night will be NOLA with a group.. Still would like to get to the Creole Creamery for my goal of getting on the wall. we'll see. I'll have to take a Taxi for that one since it is farther. I may walk it just to get ready for the Challenge..

They had tour of the 9th District and teh recovery.. I would like to get on it but the tours have been full for over a month..
