Sorry to hear about your woes Saint. There is only 1 solution....kill lots of guys on MW2!!!

Babs, was the guy someone whose name rhymed with Kirk Herbstriet?

nonono. This was way before that.
But if you see Kirk, please tell him to stop calling. It's getting really awkward, and I hate to have to block his number.

The point I am making is that eventually you can even get over a relationship with someone who has a great smile.

Things got kind of messy, though, and he broke up with me. But somehow it didn't click for me. I thought we were just suffering a brief hiccup or something.

Well, I called a while later to see if he wanted to go do something, but he said he was seeing someone and it was serious. I (stupidly) asked if it was anyone I knew. Well, not only was it anyone I knew, it was a childhood friend and it was her.

Now for the record, babs has never (never not ever) been intimidated by other women. But if, hypothetically speaking, she ever *were* to be intimidated by another woman...a 6'0 amazon beauty queen triple-major who later graduated valedictorian of the whole friggin college and who landed a lead role on Broadway her very first year in town...would probably do the trick. (Not that I'm still bitter.)

So to have my dream of reconcilation come crashing down in that fashion was particularly cruel. I cried for something like three months straight, drowning out my sobs to strains of "I am a Rock" (for a rock feels no pain), and contemplating various means of self-extermination. (n.b.: I can't say I endorse this approach.)

I'm not sure what my point is, except that I think a lot of us have to suffer that kind of loss before we figure out who we are and what it is we really want; and eventually it really does get better. I imagine it's hard to believe that now, but it won't take too long. Hang in there...
Don't worry Babs, I watched that show she was on before Law and Order - it was called Conviction - and she slept around a lot. Clearly your old boyfriend got his just desserts.

I didn't google! I really watched that show. She did a good New York accent.

okay, okay. I refuse to make poor saint's life any lower by hijacking his commiseration thread. I do have some standards. really.

good luck, saint. Things will look up.

Amen, Robin! Santito, life is for living. In a sort of related note, I was madly in love with a girl from 3rd grade (ca. 1983) until 1996. I wrote to her more on my mission than my own mom. She wrote to me. When I got home and we 'dated' for awhile, I asked her if she wanted to think about getting married. She never answered me directly; when she finally got around to it, she said, "I got my mission call to Rosario, Argentina!"

I was hurt. I decided to move to BYU. I went. My first week there (Aug 97), I had a little Jacobean wrestle with the Lord in a prayer and I told him, "I'm at my end here. Either I find someone to love me, or I'm not going to be able to live the law of chastity anymore." I was serious. I met Mrs. wuapinmon shortly thereafter (Oct 97), and what seemed hopeless became hopeful and then joyful.

I just came through a dark period of suffering due to my mother<redacted> stupid <redacted> piece of <redacted> <redacted>-<redacted> gallbladder. If you read some of my posts, in spite of my drug-addled brain, I was despairing and convinced that I was never going to be out of pain again. When I spoke about my pain, people actually asked me if I was going to hurt myself. That spooked me. (the answer is, hell no! There's always sex, drugs, and CUF).

It will get better. Don't revel in schadenfreude if her marriage doesn't last; forget about her. I've forgotten about Malissa. Now I'm married to the sassiest woman on the planet (she makes Babs look like Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club), and I love her dearly. There's someone out there, out where dreams come true, waiting for you. She'll make your world grand; she'll be by your side; she will make wild and passionate love to you (y vice versa), and you'll grow old together and think about all the wild and passionate love you used to make.

                        Things are looking up.

I would have expected "All By Myself.....Don't wannabe..all by myself...anymore"

Saint, I doubt any of us can tell you anything that will make you feel any better at the moment, but know you can come here and vent and that we know (more than you do at the moment) you'll eventually recover and better things are in store. Honest! Meanwhile, I'll buy another round while you drown your sorrows.

I bet in the future you'll see this as a positive, not a negative. Good luck till that day.

I heard recently that there is a finite amount of grief that one must go through in order to get beyond personal disappointments. So revel in your sadness for a little bit until it dissipates and move on to bigger and better.

                                The Saint shall rise again.
