Milk is $4 a gallon at Wal-Mart in eastern South Carolina. There aren't any mega-dairies around here.

I bought whole milk at WalMart here last night for $1.66/gallon.

Oh come on, I've probably eaten more rice than most people can fathom (we've had it at just about every single meal my entire freaking life).

I've mentioned this before, but my mother thinks anything involving rice and milk is a total abomination. Since she's Hawaiian, to her it is such a haole thing to do. I've always been puzzled by this since she was raised by a Mexican and has such a love for Mexican culture, and it's also such a Mexican thing to do. It's not like Japanese and Hawaiian are the only cultures that rely on rice as a dietary staple.

a quick wiki of rice pudding reveals that basically Japan and Korea are the main dissenters. Pretty much every other country (including China and most Asian countries) eat rice pudding with milk. North America, China, Latin America, India.

Sometimes I can find a sale and it'll be about $3 a gallon. Normally it is close to $4. Almost double that if you buy organic. It's been a good 6 or 7 years since I have seen milk under $2.

Nope. That's a misconception. It is common for a family use the same water to soak in (if they so choose) after bathing/showering. It's akin to hot tubs here, only they change the water more often and keep it hotter.
