  • Cereal Milk

My wife is from St. George, Utah, and her family is really weird about water. Even here in the Southeast, they don't like to turn the taps on all the way. Wasting water is a serious thing to them.

However, wasting milk is nothing to them. None of them will drink the cereal milk once they're done eating the bowl (plus, they all have this nasty habit of putting their bowl in the sink and not dumping it out, wth?). My 18-month-old was downing her cheerios milk this morning and my wife was grossed out () by it. So, I ask the CUF hive, do you drink your cereal milk?

Every last drop. Not drinking all the milk is a sin.

IMO it is wasteful not to drink it. If you dont drink it and you have a lot left over, then you are using too much milk.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

This is my family too and it drives my crazy. The worst is when my kids throw their bowls full of cereal milk into the sink and the milk splashes all over the counters and cupboards.

I pour just the right amount of milk in my cereal so that I don't have any leftover. On the rare occasion that I have misjudged the amount needed, I will pour a small amount of cereal in the bowl to finish it up. I don't really like cereal milk without the cereal. But most days I eat hot cereal, oat bran or steel cut oats and I stir my milk into it so there is never leftovers.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Milk is one of those things where if I think too much about it, it grosses me out. I never drink my milk after eating cereal, but I also try to pour just enough milk so that I don't have much left when I'm done. I also don't drink milk out of plastic. It absolutely has to be in a glass. In fact, we don't own any plastic cups.

I also don't let milk sit out on the counter for any length of time. I had to train my wife on this one. The container comes straight from the frig (preferrably the colder one in the laundry room) and goes straight back in. No warm milk.

danimal makes fun of me but I will not drink out of plastic cups or eat off of plastic plates, if I can help it.

Cereal is disgusting. It tastes like cardboard. Pouring milk on cardboard is disgusting. Drinking the leftover milk with residue of cardboard is even more disgusting.

I don't drink milk. Grosses me out.

My family can buy 1 gallon of milk, and dump 3/4 of it down the drain when it expires. It is a waste I know. But a gallon is almost as cheap as a half gallon. And if we need it to cook with, well it is better to have the gallon.

Last glass of milk I had was in 2003.

This causes much marital discord in our household. I cannot STAND drinking the milk from cereal. I simply won't do it. I think it comes from being raised on Frootloops and Fruity Pebbles. The milk always turned this weird purple color. Plus it has all those yucky crumbs and stuff. Cereal detritus.

And plus there was that one Wheaties commercial in the eighties where the guy would drink the milk out of the bowl and it would dribble down his chin. I never really got over how icky that was.

                    Or pencil shavings:
Mr. Teevee: So can you send other things? Say, like, breakfast cereal?

Willy Wonka: Do you have any idea what breakfast cereal's made of? It's those little curly wooden shavings you find in pencil sharpeners.

Charlie: But could you send it by TV if you wanted to?

I always drink the milk. Sometimes I'll poor an excessive amount of milk in the bowl so I will have plenty left over when I'm done eating the cereal.
                      I'm like LeBron James.

You need to time it so your last drop of milk goes down with your last flake of cereal. I love milk. I drink skim milk but I put down a lot of it.

No, you are doing it wrong. Juice, or related drinks (Kool-Aid, etc.) must be drunk out of glass. No plastic. Milk, on the other hand, SHOULD be consumed using a plastic cup. I'm not sure why this is true, but it obviously is. Water is ambidextrous, and can go with either glass or plastic.

You are correct, though, on the temperature. Milk must be cold. For some reason, my wife feels that just because they make the little trays in the door of the fridge big enough to hold milk cartons, we therefore are obliged to place them there. Our home life is a constant battle of me moving milk down to the cool recesses at the bottom of the fridge, and my wife moving them back to the doors.

I don't even like to drink milk within a day or two of purchase. It needs to sit for a while in the cold frig before it's acceptable.

I used to drink milk with dinner every day but finally gave that up about two years ago (just water now). I still like it occasionally with a Sunday pot roast dinner, and it is required with cookies or brownies.

I eat a bowl of cereal about once a week.
