I loved the part about how it's great that girls are getting an education, but that they had better be doing that as a way to pass the time until capn butt plug can propose.
This this guy a prick or just trying to get a reaction?

I'm going to say this site is satire, but only because I have a sliver of hope left in humanity.

It is no surprise that these guys are still bachelors, but truthfully, what is shocking about his list? Seriously. Are people here saying that people like this don't exist within our culture?
People have all sorts of idiosyncratic things on their bliss checklist. His unfortunately represents a bit of conservative Mormonism....worded inartfully, of course, but not entirely out of line with a sizable demographic.
For example, why would an LDS person be enraged that this guy wants a woman with zero career goals? There are loads and loads of LDS women roaming around Utah that "just want to be a mom." And just as many guys that are ab-fab with such an arrangement. Sherri dew. The whole 9 yards.
I think this thread may be an exercise in self-loathing, frankly. These knuckleheads might not represent the entire cross section of college-age LDS, but they certainly represent a chunk of it. To deny it is simply to be dishonest.
BYU is a place where hot topics in the student newspaper include facial hair for men, stopping and standing still for the national anthem, and people leaving devotionals before the closing prayer is given. These are the heady issues that consume us while at the Y.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

It is funny how the farther away from BYU we get, the more surreal these one-time-realities become. Yes folks, many of us attended a college where they ban beards.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostBYU is a place where hot topics in the student newspaper include facial hair for men, stopping and standing still for the national anthem, and people leaving devotionals before the closing prayer is given. On a side note, my brother (a current BYU student) recently told me that a student successfully sued the University for preventing him from taking a test in the testing center. While it is perfectly ok for BYU to require clean shaven students, apparently it is not okay for that to be a requirement of a nationally certified testing center. Unable to prevent students from testing has taken most of the teeth out of the no-beards rule.
At least this was reported to me by my brother.

My SIL who worked at the testing center about 5 year ago said they could no longer deny people tests for not being clean shaven.

Funny because I remember hearing the same thing when I was there and it was longer than 5 years ago. I think this is one of those BYU myth things.Originally posted by beefytee View PostThat happened a while ago.

I'm not saying the change happened 5 years ago. I'm not sure when it happened, but when she worked there their policy was not to turn away the unshaven.Originally posted by Surfah View PostFunny because I remember hearing the same thing when I was there and it was longer than 5 years ago. Dude's a bachelor for a reason.Originally posted by Mrs. Funk View PostThis Mormon Bachelor Pad blogger dude, Calvin, amassed a list of his "Deal Breakers." Some of them are mild enough (e.g. he doesn't want to marry a smoker, whoopee). A lot of the stuff is just frankly offensive to principles of gender equality.
Is he just trying to get a reaction, or is he just really that big of a prick?

So much for a presumption of innocence. I didn't think people still defended this action? It's about time we rounded up all the Arabs before they blow up something elseLetter: Camps and history

Last week’s article about the World War II internment camps left the impression that racism and war hysteria were the main reasons for the Japanese internment order. However, there were other much more substantive reasons and sets of circumstances for the order. First, in the 1930s a number of Japanese patriotic associations grew up on the West Coast which cultivated feelings of ties to the Japanese homeland.
Secondly, American intelligence had broken the Japanese diplomatic codes and knew Tokyo was asking consular officials to exploit these associations to drum up support for Japan’s war effort in Asia. They also were to try to recruit people to help gather intelligence about the numerous military installations in California. Few responded, but to American intelligence, the taint of their subversive activities unfortunately hung over their fellow Japanese as well.
Thirdly, American intelligence knew Japanese nationals living in southeast Asia had welcomed the invaders with open arms, often providing intelligence and detailed maps. Given our Tokyo intercepts, there was no way for our government to know but what the same would happen here if there were a West Coast invasion. In a national emergency and little time to sort things out, President Franklin D. Roosevelt saw no solution but to give the unfortunate order for relocation. In fairness, it should be noted Italian and German foreign nationals were also rounded up and put into their own internment camps.
