Part of me is surprised that the Mini only went up $70 with the retina display and A7 processor. Another part of me is surprised it raised its price. The iPad didn't jump up in price when it came out with the retina display IIRC. At $399 it makes them the most expensive mini tablet in its class and almost twice as much as the Nexus 7 which is equally impressive spec wise if not more so. I'm glad it didn't get a fingerprint sensor though.

You shopping for a laptop or a database server?Originally posted by FMCoug View PostI am due for a laptop upgrade and the new MBP is very tempting. You can get it with a terabyte of storage now. My only hesitation is the 16GB RAM limit.

That new memory compression feature in OSX Mav effectively doubles your memory anyway....
http://hotdigitalnews.com/memory-com...s-x-mavericks/However, in today’s preview of the upcoming OS X Mavericks at WWDC, Apple announced a new memory management feature that brings aspects of RAM Doubler back to the Mac OS.
Currently OS X establishes a memory footprint that holds contents even for programs that are currently open but not active, so as you open more programs available memory will become less and less, even if the programs are idling and not being used.
Memory compression reduces the size of inactive memory contents, allowing more items to run at once.
In OS X Mavericks, Apple has implemented memory compression features that, like RAM Doubler, compresses the RAM used by inactive programs so the overall memory footprint of a given set of open applications can be far less.
The memory compression works by a dictionary-based WKdm algorithm, and utilizes multiple cores of the system’s CPU to shrink the memory usage of inactive applications by more than 50 percent."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Kind of both. I sometimes have several VM's running with various Windows Server and SQL server condos. I wonder how the memory compression works with Fusion?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostYou shopping for a laptop or a database server?

You will have to ask VMWare and Microsoft. Memory compression doesn't apply for a VM.Originally posted by FMCoug View PostKind of both. I sometimes have several VM's running with various Windows Server and SQL server condos. I wonder how the memory compression works with Fusion?

No problem making the switch. I went on Wednesday and the store wasn't set up yet for the new laptops. The associate checked to verify that they had some delivered and said he would let me make the exchange but that they wouldn't be selling any until Thursday.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThen you should most definitely take it back. The new version will have the new Haswell chip. CPU speed is only 15% better but you get almost 50% more battery life and 100% more graphics processing power. Also, the hard drive should be 50% faster (this would have a major impact on performance). With that new battery life you could use it like an iPad. Only plug it in at night if you want.
I am going to get one and pass mine down the food chain at work. Yeah that's how I roll, DDD.

I am about convinced to give the MBP a whirl. Apple store is at City Creek now right? Nothing on Utah County? Anybody know if they'll have the 16GB / 1TB model in stock?

I've had this sucker for less than 24 hours and I'm already hooked. Installed Office 2011, VMWare Fusion, and the MS RDP Client and I'm in business. And the retina display. Wow.Originally posted by FMCoug View PostThey had the 1TB at Fashion Place. Just picked it up. Also has the 2.6 CPU and discrete video.
