Maybe that is the demographic they are going after, iPad 1 users. I was a 3GS user before buying the 4S, but I know many 4 users that didn't feel the 4S was enough to trade in the phone. Apple obviously knows what they are doing and maybe they are trying to keep people leapfrogging updates. I'll likely end up trading in my iPad 2 for a iPad 4 when they come out.
Are there some specific features that you were hoping for?
I doubt I would upgrade if I had an iPad 2.

Not too many. I would like a slot for removable storage. Multi-user support would be great with the ability to put on parental controls, but this is more of an iOS issue. Ability to Facetime when not connected to wifi. Death laser...

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. You should submit some of these ideas to product feedback...

The parental control one would be great. My kids play with my iPad but I had to disable the ability to download or subscribe to things after they signed me up for some $20 per month service from some app they were playing. So now when I want to download something or buy a song/show/movie I have to enable the ability to do this. I'd prefer the ability to have several accounts, one for the kids so they can play games and not sign me up for crap and one for parents.
The death laser would be cool, but I'd settle for one that can just shock a kid from across the room as that would make parenting much easier and lazier

I'm also still happy with my iP1. A specific reason to upgrade to iP3? I was figuring I would wait until next year.
You may just want to watch the prices on the iPad 2 stock and pick one of those up. I am looking to pick up one of those for my mother (for mom's day).
BTW, everyone, the on-line apple store is down (for product updates).

According to this survey, about one third of mobile users plan to buy an iPad 3. Astonishing, if true.

Mine asks for my apple id and password every time I want to download something. Doesn't yours?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I agree it's astonishing. I'm pretty happy with my iPad--which I already consider a bit of a luxury/toy. No way would I get the green light to upgrade.

It was a while ago so my memory might be foggy, but I got signed up for something that was billed to me through my carrier (AT&T) and not something that was downloaded from Apple. I disabled the ability to do that, but I think purchases from Apple always come up asking for a password.
Multi-user would also be nice in terms of setting up the interface with apps. My kids could have all the game apps on the first page with the utility apps hidden (so they don't delete my files) and MJ could have a page with only a FB, Words with Friends, and Pinterest apps.

I just want them to put a damn cursor control arrow on the keyboard so I don't have to move it into place with my finger. Let me place it with my finger and then, if it's not exactly in the place I want it to be, I can move it left or right with the cursor button.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

This. A thousand times this.
