Is this the official all-things-apple thread? Regardless, it needs to be renamed.
NOTE: this is only a mock-up. In my experience, touch screen devices that do not rest flat on the table are a bad idea. Not sure if this is one of those ideas.BGR has independently confirmed that the next-generation iPhone will not merely be an upgraded iPhone 4 as had been previously rumored. We have been told by a reliable source to expect a radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone, though we have not been given any additional details surrounding the design of the new iPhone case. What about a release, then? The consensus is that Apple is going to announce the next-generation iPhone at the company’s annual September event, traditionally focused on iPods, but we have heard it’s quite possible Apple will break tradition. According to our source, Apple may hold an event in the beginning or middle of August to announce the new iPhone, with availability to follow in the last week of August. We’re not sure if that means the iPod event will be moved up slightly, or if this will be an iPhone-specific event. Thisismynext reported earlier that the upcoming iPhone 5 would feature a new teardrop-shaped case design.

One issue I have with this design is the thinness. What I find, even while handling my Evo or even the iPad, is if I am not holding it from behind sometimes my thumb or index finger will actually touch the screen as the pads of my fingers wrap around the device. I think with such a thin phone that this would be an issue.Originally posted by falafel View PostIs this the official all-things-apple thread? Regardless, it needs to be renamed.

I agree, and I was going to say something similar. I don't think you can go too much thinner than the EVO or the current iphone. And the sides need to be flat so you have something to hold on to. The curved back works okay with the ipod because you don't need to hold it by the sides, you can hold it in your palm.Originally posted by Surfah View PostOne issue I have with this design is the thinness. So the preliminary reviews are pretty scathing. It looks like Apple created iMovie Pro and not an upgrade over FCP 7. Frankly this is very disappointing. I cannot believe that Apple didn't tell anyone that FCX would not be backwards compatible with any projects from previous FCP releases. That is absolute horse shit. Yet you can import iMovie projects into FCX. Also, I cannot believe they do not have multi-cam editing. I can't believe any production house will ever use FCX simply because of this. I use multi-cam editing and I am not a professional at all. Hollywood will use FCP 7 or move to Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. Also, no exporting of the audio, so no having sound sweetened or mastered in Pro Tools or anything else. And yet, no Soundtrack Pro either from Apple. There's a 3rd party workaround for exporting already but it costs more than the FCX software. This move was completely backwards and Apple bungled this big time. This is something I would expect from Microsoft. Apple completely alienated its core base to appeal to the masses. YouTube won over Hollywood and broadcast TV.Originally posted by Surfah View PostFCX released now. $299 download. Motion 5 and Compressor released for $49.99 each.
FCX looks like iMovie with a timeline. Motion looks way different.
I was looking forward to buying my own Mac Pro or MBP and running this software to do my own projects from home as possibly side work. Not now. I might as well build a screaming PC and invest in Premiere. How disappointing."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Rough week since the release of FCPX. Reviews are still pouring in and they're overwhelmingly negative. The app has less than 3 stars in the app store. Industry professionals and production houses are pulling the plug and many are switching to Avid or Premiere. Even Conan O'brien mocked the new FCPX.

This guy gave FCPX the Social Network treatment (The Social Network was edited with FCP7).

And this parody lampooning the differences between FCP7 and FCPX:

I cannot believe that Apple didn't beta test this with its users prior to release. Apple decided to make a buck and alienated their core users by appealing to the masses. I don't blame them, cash is king, but I don't understand this move after building the FCP Suite over the years with all of its acquisitions and goal of making it the best non-linear editing software in the world. Apple has started issuing refunds to angry users who dropped the $299 last week on FCX. But that doesn't seem to be enough. A petition is going around now demanding Apple to go back to FCP7 or give the source code to a third party to continue development. Even more disappointing is that Compressor which was released for $49.99 with it seems to be getting similar reviews, worse is people claim it is very buggy. Motion seems to have survived and is reviewing well. This makes me happy as Motion 4 is my favorite app ever."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

iPhone 5 coming 3rd quarter. I hope Sprint picks it up. I'd like that option when my Evo contract expires. Though, HTC will probably have another bad ass phone out by then.
