the customizability argument is funny coming from the android crowd. to do any real customization on either platform you have to root. i'm also curious what customizations are so important? who really cares about having 50% opacity on their menu bar instead of the factory default?
I couldn't care less about customizing, but I do like a few widgets. Does ios have that yet?

I can actually add widgets and customize my home screens on Android without rooting the phone.

the notification center basically houses widgets.

Widgets on iOS, hell no. Widgets were created by the devil and must be avoided at all cost. A 5x4 (or whatever the hell it is now) app grid is all you need.

So the answer is no, it doesn't have widgets but it has something that they are trying to pass off as similar.

                    How does that work?

I haven't looked at an iphone forever so I honestly don't know. This lack of widgets is a long running thing and obviously intentional. I wonder what the rationale is. It's one of the most useful and user-friendly things on my phone, the type of thing that Apple would typically be pretty interested in.

what functionality makes widgets important to you? you are right that i can't have an animated widget of koi swimming around a hello kitty wallpaper, but the notification center lets me preview/delete emails, text messages, voicemails/missed calls; it has a calendar preview for the day, quick stock quotes, weather, espn headlines, google news and wsj alerts, all of which are customizable. they're not called widgets, but they accomplish everything widgets do.

Except they are hidden away. To me its much nicer having widgets on the screen. Some widgets work best in full screen mode as well, which you can't get in the notifications area. Plus, that frees the notifications area up for other useful things that you can only access via settings in iOS.

this is actually one of the best things about ios 7. the new control center is basically the notification center but for frequently changed settings (brightness, wifi, volume) and some common utilities (flashlight, calculator, clock). i do agree that the ios conception of widgets could be better, but i can't imagine how that's a dealbreaker.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
