The key is having something worth integrating with. And that means you need content that people care about and are willing to purchase. Amazon has built a nice library of movies and TV shows on top of their bread and butter Kindle library.

Apple can do the same with iTunes. But they don't need to. They've built a culture that has people waiting in line for days for each new release. Amazon can't do that as they're known as a massive retail discounter. It's kind of like when Volkswagen came out with the Phaeton a couple of years ago. People just couldn't get into a $100,000 VW because this was the Beetle company. Likewise, people would balk if Amazon released a similarly priced iPad.

Apple is now giving employees discounts on iPads. Before they weren't and they sill don't give employee discounts on the iPhone. This seems to indicate that Apple has increased the margin they are seeing on the sale of the hardware. Therefore, it wouldn't surprise me to see an $299 iPad.

Lots of people have speculated that the $299 iPad would effectively kill the Kindle Fire. At that price why not spend the extra $100 and get the tablet. And I agree.

          • When you buy that iPhone 4s or iPad make sure you get the 64 GB version...

The only difference between a 16 GB iPhone 4S and the 32 GB model is 16 GB of NAND flash memory, for which Apple (AAPL) charges customers $100.

But according to Bernstein Research's Toni Sacconaghi, Apple buys that memory for a heavily discounted price of $0.67 per gigabyte, or a total $10.72.

That's a pretty sweet mark-up. And an extraordinarily profitable strategy, Sacconaghi writes in a note to clients entitled "Apple: The NAND Gravy Train."
Apple purchased 23% of the world's NAND flash memory last quarter.

              • Other than a charitable desire to give Apple the huge markup on memory, I don't understand the suggestion to buy the 64G iPad, at least not as it pertains to the linked article. what am I missing?

                  • So are there any workarounds for the non-flash capabilities of my new $600 toy? For some reason I was under the impression that Apple and Adobe had come to some sort of an agreement. However, everytime I try to use the internet on my iPad, i'm reminded that's not the case.

Sort of. You can use a browser like Skyfire to view flash videos. Kinda clunky, but it works. There is nothing that is nice an clean, though.

The agreement you thought you heard about was probably Adobe's decision to stop supporting flash and to put their time into developing HTML5, which Apple supports.

Apple and Adobe didnt come to an agreement. Adobe developed a work-around that allows iOS to handle what is in essence "flash-free" flash. It only works if the content provider pays a fee to run the new Adobe Flash server that hosts whatever data you are trying to view.

What exactly are you not allowed to see on the internet? I have run into this every now and then (youtube here and there), but nothing that has altered my internet patterns. Are you playing a lot of flash-based games?

I have noticed that the ESPN mobile site is 1000 times slower than your average internet site. Is that because of all the flash and click menues? Whatever the reason, it is annoying.

could be but doubtful. a site with the traffic of espn mobile would pay for the Adobe server.

I stopped going to ESPN a couple of years ago because i hated that it automatically started streaming a video anytime I went to the site. I generally go to foxsports for all my conservative sports needs now.

A have noticed a bizarre glitch on the iPad safari browser and it almost always manifests itself on the foxsports site (normal website, not mobile). I go to foxsports.com in safari, land on the home page, click on any of the main stories on the left hand side. Once I am directed to the story page, I use the browser's back button and I am back at the home page....but it is always an older version of the home page....usually a week or so ago. So strange. Doesn't happen with any other website besides foxsports.

it happens to me a lot for hotair.com, Redstate, and every once in a while, CUF.
