CarPlay is cool and all, but I'm not convinced just a regular bluetooth connection to the interface doesn't do the same thing... maybe GM cuts costs somehow by having their own proprietary interface. Do you know whether the car companies pay licensing or something similar to Apple to have CarPlay come standard? I'm not sure if that benefits Apple or the car manufacturer more..."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Sounds like GMs plan is to integrate all the apps into their own system rather than rely on your phone.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

My wife was sold on the Kia Telluride until she found out they don’t have wireless CarPlay so she decided to get a different car. It’s kind of an irrational decision but I totally get it.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post
My wife's car has wireless CarPlay, which is nice. Ironically, because of the chip storage it didn't come with the builtin wireless charger.
I find it interesting that GM is getting rid of CarPlay (and Android Auto) in all their EVs... Yet another reason to not buy an EV, especially from GM."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Of course, she could get a wireless CarPlay adaptor... But good for her for pushing car manufacturers to include these important features.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

I have one of those for my daily driver. It works pretty well, but about every 5th time connecting, it takes a while and makes me jump through some hoops. Meanwhile, my wife's van with wireless carplay is seamless. So I get it.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

I don't think it is irrational (caveat, my car doesn't have CarPlay). If you were forced to buy a crappy car because of it, then sure. But you still have a ton of options even with this restriction, and though it has nothing to do with core functionality, it is a significant part of the user experience every time you are in the car. It makes sense to me.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

Damn these companies for wanting to make money. Glad Apple isn't about gouging its customers by, say, making you buy a $20 charging block for its proprietary connector.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

We'll see if the EU is satisfied or if they regulate the issue further.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post
I think it's that fast charging will only work with Apple-manufactured or Apple-certified (MFI) cables and of course one doesn't come with it. Other cables should still work but not support fast charging but.... it's Apple, so never underestimate their ability and willingness to gouge you for your "benefit".

Same. Works fine most of the time. Even on my Kia Telluride.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

For the life of me, I don't why anyone decided forcing you to connect with a cable to use CarPlay was a good idea."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

This seems like a dumb idea. I guess they are trying to be like Tesla.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

I heard it’s because the Bluetooth connection can’t handle enough data so it needs wifi or a cord.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Yes. Therefore, the wireless CarPlay adaptors that I use first make a connection via bluetooth and then it switches over to wifi. It is a small device that connects to the USB port. I assume this is the same method used by the built-in wireless adaptors that are available in many vehicles. Why not make this standard on all CarPlay vehicles?Originally posted by Moliere View Post

I think it’ll be standard in a year or two. The weird thing about the Telluride is that you can get wireless CarPlay on the lowest model but once you get a higher model you can’t get it. I guess the screens are different on the low end modelOriginally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
