I think it's that fast charging will only work with Apple-manufactured or Apple-certified (MFI) cables and of course one doesn't come with it. Other cables should still work but not support fast charging but.... it's Apple, so never underestimate their ability and willingness to gouge you for your "benefit".

Wireless fast charges are the way to go.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I charge wirelessly 85-90% of the time. But on every single iphone I have had with the lightning port (From iPhone 5 through the my current 12Pro, i've probably had 4-5 phones with the lightning port) the lightning port has gone bad or become extremely difficult to use. So for that other 10-15% of the time, like when I am on the go and just want to charge up through the port, it is a total PITA. Sometimes i'm going on a quick overnighter and I just want to grab a cable and not a wireless docking station.

          • 100w charger with usb-a and usb-c slots is the move. charges computer/ipad/phone, and will do a 90% phone charge in like 15 mins.

Weird. I've had just as many phones with lightning ports and have never had an issue. I only plug my phone into my car for Apple CarPlay but otherwise charge wirelessly everywhere else. Hopefully with my next car I won't even have to plug it into the car to use CarPlay.

Yeah, I think it must have to do with the way I keep my phone in my pocket? Either that, or my pockets are extra linty? But it had happened to every phone of mine. seems less likely to be a problem with USB-C because of the physical nature of the connector.

I'll buy one, but it means that next time I fly that I'll probably have to fly Southwest.

Get yourself over to the Airline rewards thread so you can fly for free.

Have you never cleaned out the port with a wood or plastic toothpick? I do it as out once a year, and it’s amazing how much comes out, but it’s as good as new afterwards. .

I almost converted over to iPhone. However, I've stuck with Android this long that I couldn't do it. Picked up the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and happy with it.

Sweet. I'm holding on to my S21 Ultra for a little while longer.

My wife's car has wireless CarPlay, which is nice. Ironically, because of the chip storage it didn't come with the builtin wireless charger.

I find it interesting that GM is getting rid of CarPlay (and Android Auto) in all their EVs... Yet another reason to not buy an EV, especially from GM.
