OK, who am I kidding? I'll go with a new one, despite having far less money than some might believe--I was a terrible welder, and my application to Stanford Med School was passed over in favor of Hallelujah's. Still, for the privilege of contributing to UT's retirement fund, and because I do love the white boxes (walking out with a brown package would make it seem like I'm sneaking out of an adult bookstore), new it is. But a problem: if I want 16 GB memory (which my IT guy recommends), there's a ten-day wait, meaning I wouldn't get it until after our big trip that starts Tuesday. So, my final question:Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHa. It tickles me to think of PAC going with the refurb to save a little cash.
Should I wait for the 16 GB, or will 8 GB of memory be enough? I use the laptop only for word processing, web browsing, and hanging out with this crowd. I'll also do some light photo editing (with just a little video editing, possibly). I'd expect to use the new machine for up to four years or so.

Personally I would get the 16 GB of RAM, if I was configuring the laptop for myself but I am hard on computers. For what you are expecting to do 8 GB should be enough."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

I need 16GB because I am frequently running Mac, Windows, and Ubuntu at the same time.
I am currently installing yet another Ubuntu image.

Our IT guy just said I should wait for the 16 GB--while the 8 would be good enough for now, if I really get into photo/video editing, and because of the passage of time in any case, I'll eventually wish I had the 16 GB, probably within a couple of years. So, Ted, don't look for a spike in Apple's profits until early June, but it'll come. Thanks, everyone, for the advice.

It will be worth every penny, JL. You won't be disappointed!... Unless you are expecting something stoopid like a headphone jack. "The best iPhone ever!"Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThe iPhone 8 expected to cost $1200 for an entry-level phone.

They're saying they will continue to release the standard iPhone w the lcd along side this new fancy one so that regular joes can still own an iPhone. The nut jobs can still have their cake and eat it too."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Hey, Apple Fanboy JL... Did you get your AirPods yet? Uncle Tim has increased production but still can't keep them in the store:
https://www.macrumors.com/2017/08/01...irpods-demand/Apple Increased AirPods Production Capacity, But Still Unable to Meet Demand
During today's earnings call covering the third fiscal quarter of 2017, Apple CEO Tim Cook briefly mentioned the company's super popular hard-to-come-by wireless earphones, the AirPods.
According to Cook, production capacity has been bumped up, but because of the high level of demand, Apple is still unable to make enough to reach supply/demand balance.
We're also seeing incredible enthusiasm for AirPods. 98 percent customer satisfaction based on Creative Strategy's survey. We have increased production capacity for AirPods and are working very hard to get them to customers as quickly as we can, but we are still not able to meet the strong level of demand.
You best order them now if you want them before Christmas!"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
