I don't get it. There are a ton of hubs and dongles available. What is it that you can't connect right now?Originally posted by Shaka View PostI like it for the times I take it out in front of the TV and surf the web. I'm torn on the touch strip. I get pissed off when I think of all the pricey outboard equipment that the move rendered unusable. With that said this is coming out soon and may solve my problems."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Wait, aren't you that guy who makes fun of Uncle Dongle and the decision to get rid of the headphone jack on the iPhone because a dongle is not an adequate solution?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI don't get it. Apples and oranges. This is a compelling new industry standard that is not aimed at gouging captive Apple customers by forcing them to buy proprietary junk. It has the potential to converge all cables and connectors to a single standard for all devices on all platforms and therefore signal the beginning of the end to dongles. You can argue it's the anti-apple move. I have to give them credit if I want to maintain some integrity in the debate.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostWait, aren't you that guy who makes fun of Uncle Dongle and the decision to get rid of the headphone jack on the iPhone because a dongle is not an adequate solution?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Firewire stuff is completely hit or miss. I have one drive that connects fine but others that crash the system. My biggest headache is an audio interface that I use for my studio. It's expensive and has largely been rendered inoperable. With any of the above I have to have two different dongles to attempt to plug them in. Hopefully the OWC gizmo will solve those problems. If not I'll be spending another couple of thousand to replace some stuff.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI don't get it. There are a ton of hubs and dongles available. I think USB C/Thunderbolt 3 will be great. I maintain they went all-in at least a year too soon.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostApples and oranges. Inspired in part by this post, I'm about to get the 13" MacBook Pro, switching away from a PC laptop for the first time in a decade. My wife loves her Apple stuff and I have an iPhone, so why not? The deals shown in UT's link look good, but I'm leaning toward spending an extra $300 bucks or so (all of it deductible!) to get a brand new one. Is there any benefit to buying new (vs. refurb) other than the satisfaction of knowing I'm receiving it undefiled by man (other than the dude in Chengdu who packed it)?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

I bought my current MBP on a whim because Best Buy had an open box version for several hundred dollars off. I've owned a couple of refurbs and they were great as well.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostInspired in part by this post, I'm about to get the 13" MacBook Pro, switching away from a PC laptop for the first time in a decade. I bought my Macbook air and my iPad from the Apple refurbished site and never found a flaw in either one and have been very happy with both.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostInspired in part by this post, I'm about to get the 13" MacBook Pro, switching away from a PC laptop for the first time in a decade. The Apple refurbs come with a full warranty just like new. If you get it and don't like it then you can also take it back to your apple store. The only difference between new and refurbished, other than it might have a few more battery charge cycles, is it will come in a brown box instead of the pretty white one. If you are into the fancy apple box then by all means spend the $300+ and get the new one. Either way my stock portfolio will still thank you, maybe a little more for buying new. While you are shopping the apple store for your lovely wife you should also pick up a iPad or something nice for yourself as well."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
