    • I am interested to see what happens here. I am, for now, in agreement with everyone here, and the lack of headphone jack is one reason that I will not be upgrading to the 7 right away.

Having said that, Apple has shown the ability to push things like this through that people are initially upset about, and then shortly decide they don't care about, such as taking out floppy drives or not having Flash support. I don't think anyone thinks they made bad decisions in those cases.

On the other hand, they also tend to stick to their own ideas even when it is clear that no one is buying into them, like that old one button mouse.

It will be interesting to see if three years from now everyone will have ditched the headphone jack, and no one will have cared.

Completely understand that reasoning, but this one seems different. The standard audio jack is a simple, compact system that works great and is ubiquitous in millions of devices. Seems like an unnecessary gamble that could backfire, big time.

Let it go, JL... Old headphone jack lived a good life, long life (1878-2016, RIP). It is time to move on.

          • Did they also introduce some new cases with a circle cut out to show the Apple logo?

It means you can no longer pick up $5 earbuds from the check out line at Walmart.

                  • one reason lightning headphones would be ok is if it could drive headphones better than 3.5mm. eliminate the need for an amp for good headphones.

                      • The iPhone 6 plus and iPhone 6s plus are still really good phones and the introduction of the 7 will mean a refurbished 6 plus, 6s plus will be pretty cheap.

If you already have a 6 plus and your contract is ending, go the prepaid route for awhile. I don't see the point in getting a 7.

                          • Square readers and other credit card readers also use a headphone jack.

Well if it ends up being a good move in the long run, I will give them all the credit that will be due.

Meanwhile, enjoy your shitty android phone.

My Audio Technica and Grado headphones (which are good by an standard) disagree. They work fine on my iPhone.
