I think we had a unusual stress this Thanksgiving. We had supper at my parents. My Mom hasn't been feeling well for about a week or so, low grade fever and lower back pain. She thought it was a kidney infection. Any way she almost passes out and we put her to bed. Yesterday she still didn't want to go the Dr, but we, the kids insist. Dr and he takes one look at her blood nrs Hemocrit was 24, and says you have two choices. You can either get in your car and drive to the hospital or we can call an ambulance. She ends up getting two units of blood and being scheduled for the test were they look a the large intestine. If they don't find anything there, I guess they start looking at the upper GI Track

Watching your parents get old sucks

The best Thanksgiving I can remember was a low-key affair at our house in Hartsville. My dad had died three weeks before, and I couldn't bring myself to go be around the entire extended family. My mom and my sister elected to go, so we stayed at home. Tim came down from Raleigh. It was a lazy day. I made a kick-ass turkey, orange-tarragon stuffing, apple-cider-laced deviled eggs, green beans, sweet potato souffle, squash casserole, pretzel salad, and pumpkin chiffon pie.

The food was great. Tim decided he needed some "moisturizer" so we went moisturizer shopping at Wal-Mart on Thanksgiving in my small town. We totally didn't look gay at all. The next morning, we got up early at did Black Friday in Florence, SC.

No one fought; no drama other than the crap Tim is always slinging, and it was great.

Juxtapose that with Thursday. My in-laws are here. I'm hoping that it'll be a nice time, but with the FIL we're like oil and water; two know-it-alls who won't back down.

We were going to try and beat the storm and head to my SIL's home in Grass Valley, CA early this morning. All the kids are packed and excited to see their cousins. My wife is excited to see her sister and go ride horses on their ranch. With the storm, the California Highway Patrol has closed I-80 at the Nevada-California border. All the parking lots/hotels in Reno are full due to the truckers being delayed. The thought of being stuck somewhere in Nevada on I-80 with four kids and a new puppy doesn't sound fun. Looks like we'll be staying in SLC for now.

My wife did the same thing today as we were going over our itinerary for the day. She claimed that we had too much to do for the dinner tomorrow. I asked her to elaborate. She is spending about 2 hours making centerpieces that nobody will be able to eat and she feels put out that she also has to make the stuffing (which everyone will eat). I tried to explain to her to ditch the centerpieces and focus on the stuffing because nobody cares about the centerpieces as much as they do the food.

Fast forward to right now...my wife is at the store buying stuff for the centerpieces. I'm at home watching the kids.

This will be the first Thanksgiving without Mom, so it will be interesting and somehow subdued. She was a wonderful cook and really loved the holiday. Most of the locals are still going over to Dad's for the day though.

Last week, my sisters were debating who would have the honor of baking Dad's mincemeat pie - both are good bakers, but IMO not on Mom's level

If they close I 80 over Donner Pass, its got to be a bad one. They do a fair job of keeping the snow plowed through there, so it must be especially bad this week.

It looks like the storm has blown over out here, though, so that means, 1) The pass should be open by the time you get there, and 2) Nevada will likely be a mess tonight and possibly tomorrow.

                    Good luck.

My parents are scheduled to leave at 4:30 or so from SLC to fly to Houston to spend thanksgiving with me. I hope they make it. I really am worried that they will not. So far, no delays, and the flight leaves in three hours.

Strange circumstances this year. My in-laws (MIL and FIL as well as my wife's sister's family) are coming here for TG. They were supposed to be arriving late Wednesday night, but they decided to leave two hours ago. Just 5 minutes ago we learned that they'll be arriving in time for dinner tonight. Thanks for the head's up, guys! They are Utah fans, so I should know better than to expect common courtesy.

The strange part is that we're ditching them on TG and traveling to my parents' house for the weekend. So they are going to have TG dinner at our house, but without the presence of my family. Odd.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

My BYU coed just called from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson on her way to Chattanooga to spend the holiday with mrs. myboynoah's family. She's so excited and looking forward to the time away. We're so happy we flew her out this morning.
