About the new board name (cougarstadium.com)

Because telling you that you'll always be welcome here, even though the word Ute isn't in the URL any more, apparently pains you so much, I'll say the opposite:

Take your loser, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Ute friends with you and go start your own UteStadium.com board that focuses generally on Ute sports but also allows for all kinds of eclectic conversation such that people of all stripes feel welcome, that's light on moderation, and that has fewer trolls and morons and a better readability format than CB or UFN.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

You probably identify more of the first order shift in Foyer activity. The glory days of the Foyer are probably the last year or two at cougarguard. If one was to think about the "market value" of cougarguard, the foyer was probably responsible for the majority of it (after that it would have been the football forum). Certainly, for a lot of people (me, for example) I just have no desire to discuss those topics anymore in fora like guard/cuf/stadium.

To a lesser degree demographics did shift at least implicitly. Lots of people's relationship with the church changed over the guard -> cuf -> stadium time series. That shift probably had an effect on the vibrancy of the foyer (but I don't think it is first order).




I think SU is right (I don't think this is a case of remembering a "camelot" that never existed); CUF never reproduced the vibrancy of the guard foyer. Partly, for the reasons stated above but also because Mike Waters was a very good foyer participant.

I think most are comfortable with openly ute fans living an openly ute fan lifestyle. Whatever that means. So I'm not sure that the comparison fits.

Again - not to defend or support the name change. I'm best described as apathetically indifferent. I suppose my opinion is subject to change depending on how the name change effects the board as a whole and the posters that post here. I just don't think the name is that big a deal - other than figuring out what I'm going to call this place now. CUF is a lot quicker to say (and type) than CougarStadium.

I am blown away by the whining and crying of Ute fans. The majority of you started on cougarboard.com a message board that is dedicated solely to BYU in fact the mission statement says:



I do not see anything about Utah fans.

You then migrated to cougarguard.com

which states:

Again nothing about Utah or its fans.

You are now posting on cougarstadium.com which is very similar to cougarboard and cougarguard that you have spent hundreds of hours and made thousands of posts on without having any issues about whether or not the site was catering to your favorite team.

I do not see any of you alleged Ute fans going out and starting your own message board that caters to utah fans only or better yet since you are all for equality how about a utah-byuforum that you pay for and run yourself. The reason is that the Ute fan base can barely support Utefans.net let alone another message board. The ute fans trickling over here have been few and far between and the quality has been terrible. That is why none of you are in any hurry to use your hard earned funds to start your own board, not enough interest to support it.

Just like the name of cougarboard, and cougarguard didn't deter you from posting the name cougarstadium won't either. You will always be the red-headed step children that spends more time on your former rivals message board than your own.

If anybody cares for my 'serious' opinion here, it is this: cougjunkie is right. CUF was the best option for Utes with the desire for serious discussion of Utah sports without having to cut through as much of the bullshit that insulates the few decent takes and info that get shared there.

That coupled with a love of the rivalry is what drew me here. Obviously the rivalry has tanked and I wonder if this thread would even exist, had Chris Hill never made the chicken-shit decision to avoid playing BYU consistently. In my ideal world, BYU would be in the B12, Utah in the P12 and we would still have a meaningful rivalry played in the latter half of the season ( a la USC vs. ND) and the interest we had in each other’s respective programs would persist.

As it stands, I will participate here as little or as much as I want for as long as it is still entertaining, or relevant to me. If a Ute version of this place pops up, and it is of equal or better entertainment value, I will migrate over there.

Being with 90% Cougar fans gives me the same kind of feeling I get when in the restroom and the guy next to me looks over the stall and then smiles.

IMO, the thing that makes this board great is a wide range of strong voices on some pretty divisive topics. I really think it is amazing that we have a place where people from both sides of the issues can get together on topics as controversial and divisive as politics, religion and the rivalry. Sure, it probably skews more liberal politically and more towards BYU in the rivalry, and there is always the concern from many that the Foyer can get too hostile towards the Church, but there are always strong voices on both sides of the issues. I think it is almost miraculous that CUF was able to feel like a safe place for so many people with such differing views for so long.

This name change feels like the powers that be announcing that they no longer want this type of balance as it pertains to the rivalry to exist here. It's sad. I really enjoyed ruffling some feathers and taking what the Cougars here had to dish out. 95% of it felt like good natured fun, especially since junkie left. It's nice to have someplace where you can come to get a dose of reality about your favorite sports team.

The fact that this change has brought junkie out of the woodwork just makes the message that Ute sports voices aren't welcome that much clearer. Maybe that isn't what you were going for, but that's how it is being received by most of us. This place will never be the echo chamber that utefans and cougarboard have become, JL is too cool to ever let it get to that, but I think this change will take away part of what made CUF unique.

some of us stumbled onto Cougar Ute Board only recently and have never heard of CougarGuard, or spend time at CougarBoard, etc. I had no idea of the history of this site and that it evolved from a Y Fan site previously. I just thought it WAS a refreshing entertaining mix of Cougar and Ute Fans that could behave like adults and engage in conversation.

Blaming this on the rivalry skipping two years is as much hilarious as it is bogus. Sorry you're so butthurt CUF Committee!

My recommendations are that this site should immediately alter anyone that types the word “Utes” to “Yewts.”

Commence discussions on KWhitt, Sitaki and ARod's spirituality and worthiness. I had no idea I was conversing with such pussies!
