I think it is pretty clear, due to the suddenness of the change, and the Dude's close-mouthedness about it, that this is in response to a legal issue. Given that the name still has "Cougar" in it, we can only assume that the problem lay in the "Ute". My guess is that Lebowski got a cease and desist form one of the following:

1. The University of Utah
2. The Ute Indian Tribe
3. Fred Gwynne

In 2013 this message board has more Utes and is less focused on BYU sports than it has ever been. So I'm not sure what you mean.

I am not a fan of change and this change will make it harder for me to transistion to a Ute fan if BYU continues in the direction of the bottom 10 instead of the top 10.
