Yep.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI don't think that anyone is going to drop off the site on the basis of this change. However, it is going to be harder to recruit new Ute fans to the site because they are going to see it as just another BYU fan site. If JL wants to over time transition this to a BYU site that is fine, it is his site and he has every right. However, I'm definitely disappointed in this move. It won't change the site now, but it will over time.

It was weird on CougarBoard and CougarGuard how nobody that supported the Utes ever joined or participated. Same with UteFans, no BYU fans ever joined there. Weird how that works.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI don't think that anyone is going to drop off the site on the basis of this change. I'm just relieved that we can still start threads related to Utah sports if we wish. I thought maybe there would be some filter put in place where that wouldn't be an option anymore.
Heaven knows the world needs more threads related to Utah sports, especially on a site called CougarStadium.com!
Really, I ain't one for message board drama. I get enough drama in community theater, baby. However, to be honest I'm less likely to engage in talk about Utah sports on a site that's BYU themed. It just feels wrong. I'll certainly stick around and contribute to facial hair discussions and the like, but I can't imagine making a site devoted to BYU my go-to place for Utah sports, no matter how much I like the roster here.
I apologize in advance for the giant hole the absence of my four posts per month about Ute sports may leave in the board.

I think this was well-timed blow on the part of the EC to try to avert the normal off-season virtual fisticuffs that happen every year at this time without fail. I wonder what they have in store for the doldrums between March Madness and CFB?Originally posted by Senioritis View PostReally, I ain't one for message board drama. My guess is that Lebowski stumbled upon a pretty sweet URL and figured he had to use it. (Frankly, I'm surprised that cougarstadium.com was available). No shame in that - he pays the bills, he calls the shots.
I'm not worried about Ute fans - we are a hardy bunch. Being outside looking in doesn't faze us. We've survived decades of persecution as religious minorities within our own religion. We can handle a URL change.
But I worry for our fellow Cougar comrades. Cougarstadium.com sounds like the perfect landing place for those fans that find cougarboard to be a little too outspoken, disloyal, liberal, soft on crime, etc. A great place to chat about Bronco's status among the all-time greats. The future may portend a wave of truebluecougs. BYU71 will be pleased, I'm sure.

I think it is pretty clear, due to the suddenness of the change, and the Dude's close-mouthedness about it, that this is in response to a legal issue. Given that the name still has "Cougar" in it, we can only assume that the problem lay in the "Ute". My guess is that Lebowski got a cease and desist form one of the following:
1. The University of Utah
2. The Ute Indian Tribe
3. Fred Gwynne

Meh. The name change doesn't affect me as I don't pay attention to either the Ute or the Cougar side of the former URL. I anticipate that this will play out identically to the mandatory transition to Facebook Timeline--outrage fading to mild indignation dwindling to silence.
Carry on, Dude. Thanks for the work you put into this community."You know, I was looking at your shirt and your scarf and I was thinking that if you had leaned over, I could have seen everything." ~Trial Ad Judge
