I didn't change anything and given what JL said I suspect this is still the case.
Hmmm... That would certainly explain the confusion.

If that is the case, I have no idea why it would be so. The settings for the SE appear to be identical to the settings for the other fora except for the "private forum" setting.

Are SE members a separate user class?

Yes, and they have their own set of permissions. But I just checked the permissions and they are identical to the registered user (default) permissions. Furthermore, if they had permission to delete threads, it should allow deletion in all fora, not just the SE. It's a mystery.

Not necessarily. These software packages have override protocols when permissions conflict. It's conceivable that something somewhere is overriding the standard permissions just in the case of the one private forum. By the time you get to something like a _.8.1, and all the concomitant patches, there's honestly no telling what all's going on behind the scenes.

Perfect. Thanks Pelagius. That really clears things up. I just checked and you are correct....it is still possible for users to control their own Speakeasy threads.

Given that this is now publicly established, I trust that these settings will not be unilaterally changed without discussion prior to doing such. And not Exec Committee discussion, but rather boardwide discussion. Awesome! Go Cougars, beat the Aztecs!

Pelagius kindly pointed me to a discussion in the Board Room that took place last October. I had forgotten a few details, but based on the information in that thread the permission settings have not been altered since that time. There was also a record there of an article I found indicating that for many boards, threads can be deleted by thread originator regardless of permission settings. For some reason, that bug/issue only appears on our board in one forum.

I may be losing it, BUT I AM NOT COMPLETELY CRAZY YET.

Hey DDD, I updated the filters for the media embedding utility last week without securing your permission. Sorry about that.

That's fine, as long as we can still edit our posts!

On a slightly different tack, how do the bigwigs of CUF feel about letting people edit the title of threads we start? I've made typos and couldn't change them after the thread was posted.

What's the possibility of receiving that ability? If it's already possible, explanation would be appreciated.

Just click "advanced options" after you click edit.

Or at least, that's how it used to work.

I don't think there is a permission setting for that. Just PM one of the mods. Not a problem.

I was able to track down and rectify the rogue thread deletion setting deep within the bowels of the admin cp last night. The SE is no longer a special case.

If any of you have privacy concerns that cannot be rectified by editing your own posts, please contact a mod/admin.

So, if I understand this correctly, DDD's rant started with a plea for greater thread-editing privileges, but has actually resulted in a net reduction of priviliges?
