the club (if you will) is not a secret. It's listed, along with admissions criteria and all the participating members, under the community section.

I think a sticky in town hall would be a better place for this information. It wouldn't take newcomers (who are already pretty much overwhelmed by the newness of other aspects of the board) so long to pick up on the implications of the existence of the SE.

You say that you don't care about it, and that's fine. But if hypothetically you did care, I would hypothetically tell you that:

Your observations are not unprecendented. Changes to the crypt/SE system have been proposed continually for a couple of years now. Several more prominent posters have always held that the system is ineffective and somewhat juvenile.

For a long time there was overwhelming resistance to any suggestion of change. But as the forum has grown to include nearly every regular user of the board, even the most committed of the SE-defenders have begun to concede that it no longer serves its original purpose, and that so much fuss over admission is hardly warranted.

I would not be surprised if the system is overhauled in the near future. I also wouldn't be surprised if it isn't. But several of the moderators have been proponents of automatic entry criteria since the founding of the board. And if admission to a new "crypt" is based solely on number and frequency of posts, you may be included whether you like it or not.

Not interested? If I weren't interested in SE why would I be making these posts? SE is very interesting to me. I'm actually kind of fascinated by Mike Waters, his benevolent dictatorship, the way he used the crypt to manipulate his board, etc. It's totally interesting to me that this man who, as far as I understand it, in the name of Christianity and protecting testimonies put together a tyrannical moderation system and a (somewhat) secret and exclusive society. Interested isn't nearly strong enough of a word for how I feel about SE. Interest, however, shouldn't be misconstrued to mean that I want to gain admittance as it is currently organized.

I'd want to see it in person and truth be told I'd likely be more interested in the animation -- is it on the wall in the second pic? How does the animation play? Is it a projection or ...?

For my first year MFA thesis I've been working on a sculpture of sorts. Eventually (later this month) I will post a link to a Web site chronicling my work.

Yeah... the animation is the best part. Here's a site that has some of Michael Rees' other work. If you click on the bottom two pics you get a bit of an idea of the animation. I think it's pretty interesting to watch the way the creature things deal with weight.

The animation plays on a small screen inside the building behind the sculpture. If you look carefully you can see a tall black stand just on the other side of the glass doors. The monitor is enclosed in the top part of the stand. I think they play it outdoors on a flat screen hung from the building in good weather.

I'm excited to see your work. Will you PM me to make sure that I don't miss the link?

I think I'll use this logic on my wife:
