  • A Few Thoughts on the Stadium and Game

    The Stadium

1.When I drove past I couldn't believe how enormous it was. It seriously looks like something out of War of the Worlds.

2.Sound sucked. Rather than acoustics I think the culprit was not enough speakers to provide adequate coverage. I think this is a problem that can be easily fixed.

3.The big screen was completely insane. I'm amazed they can get that good of a picture on that large of a screen.

4.The lack of scoreboard bugged the crap out of me. I want to know more than the gametime and score.

    The Game:

    1. The defense was quick.

    2. Pendleton and Rich are awesome. Why Rich wasn't in there last year I will never know. These two guys (along with Logan) provide the upgrade our defense needed.

    3. Logan is the best midget cornerback to ever play the game.

    4. Now that we have linebackers and safeties that can play things open up for Jan to have a big year.

    5. Max had his struggles but he made the plays when needed. He threaded the needle on a lot of throws and made the plays needed to win.

    6. Tonga was great at picking up the blitz but needs to get in better shape. He seemed slow.

    7. Kariya was a pleasant surprise. While not a slasher he isn't afraid to put his head down and take on a defender. He may be at his best catching passes.

    8. O line wasn't that great but was servicable.

The OU fans were great before and after the game. I had one frat boy who was a bit of a turd afterwards but he was shut down quickly by another OU fan. I especially appreciated those puny dresses the OU coeds wearing. When you add the cowboy boots to complete the ensemble Goatnappers nipples blew a gasket.

    On the lack of scoreboards.

What are these big black objects?

They're there on either side of the open space on the BYU side of the field, but not on the Oklahoma side:

When I saw them, I first thought they were display boards. It'd be a great place to stick something like, oh, timeouts left. Or stats. You know, whatever.

For reference's sake, here is BYU's Scoreboard:

Information available: time, score, down, distance, time outs left, quarter.

I think you can easily remedy the problem by including all that information on the bottom or sides of the screens. They have score, time, and quarter now. It would only take a little ingenuity to get it all up there without taking up too much space.

The other Big 12 schools have them, too (they were incredibly popular last year), so I had thought they were nationwide, but I guess not?

I felt embarrassed for them. How they could ALL forget their tops is beyond me.

I'm kinda embarrassed for them that they would pay fifty bucks for a crimson potato sack that offers no, um, lift; and looks an awful lot like a maternity dress. But like I said, they're wildly popular. Last year at OU-Texas a fourth of the co-eds on both sides were sporting them.

yeah, like I said, not terribly flattering dresses, but the girls love them.

I thought those things would be the scoreboard as well. I was bummed when they never lit up.

I wonder if they didn't because they couldn't get them installed on the other side of the field as well before things got started.

                    .
Not in Provo although I'd love to see the trend there.

There were hot BYU women at the game but they were all modestly dressed and married. It just wasn't the same.

                      The stadium's not finished.

Did anybody else think it was weird that the next game there is Baylor versus Tech? They're not even going to be fifty percent capacity for that one.

Why were your cheerleaders wearing turtlenecks?

I couldn't figure that out. Maybe Fed-Ex still hadn't delivered their summer gear. Either that or the AC in the stadium was making more than Goatnapper's nipples hard.

I dunno. For some reason, we think God loves us more if he sees us less.

You wouldn't believe some of the stuff they put up on campus to encourage modesty. My personal favorite is "Goldifox and the three bares", a poster about four girls choosing a prom dress. ("This one's too short! This one's too low! This one's too sheer! but THIS one is JUUUST RIGHT!")

I must have missed all these hot BYU women you are talking about. I saw a lot of frumpy BYU women keeping the high waisted jeans industry in business during these tough economic times.
