The Pac 10 should add Manchester United. It would dominate UK recruiting. And the natural geographic pair would be Chelsea. Plus, Chelsea has a good academic reputation.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

TCU was supposed to be in the Big 12 to begin with. Baylor was subbed last-minute.Originally posted by statman View PostAdding TCU would be ridiculous. It adds no TVs. It adds no fans. It would dilute recruits. It's just a no win situation for the Big XII. Get rid of Baylor and add TCU - that's not a bad idea. But adding a 5th BCS team to a fixed area only dilutes the recruiting for everyone else...Last edited by Babs; 09-02-2009, 07:37 PM.

Absolutely. Oxford and Cambridge. The possibilities are endless. I hear Brazil's got a solid football team.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe Pac 10 should add Manchester United. I came across a blog last summer that examined Pac 10 expansion, and they make reasonable points:
Part 1: Introduction
Part 2: Gridiron
Part 3: Academics, Other Athletics and TV Markets
Part 4: Scheduling Issues
The conclusion was to add Utah and Colorado.

The P10 has gotten 2 teams into the BCS once I believe 2000, OSU and UDub. So what pie would they be missing out on exactly?Originally posted by statman View PostWhat's changed is the MWC getting a share of the BCS bonanza. If BSU were to join the MWC, it would be a 100% lock for the BCS. And the BCS will NEVER be able to get rid of a member. N E V E R. The Big(L)East would have them in court in a second, and court is the one place that the BCS cannot afford to go. There's a good chance that the BCS doesn't survive court. As in, it ceases to exist, not that it simply loses a case...
So, threaten the PAC10 Presidents with a ~15% reduction in their BCS revenues, and apparently they're willing to talk. THAT is what has changed...Get confident, stupid

i guaranfreakingtee you that if and when the PAC 10 considers expansion BYU will be in the mix. BYU has a large fanbase that has major concentrations in several PAC 10 cities. Also when considering TV markets BYU has a larger fanbase in Utah than the UofU and it extends into Idaho and Wyoming.
It will come down to money folks.

But adding BYU and Utah chases the same money twice. Adding Utah & Colorado means more money. BYU & Colorado would be better from a pure money standpoint, but I actually believe that the philosophical differences between BYU & the PAC-10m coupled with the fact that BYU is not a research institution in the way that all PAC-10 schools are would cause a problem.Originally posted by Shaka View Posti guaranfreakingtee you that if and when the PAC 10 considers expansion BYU will be in the mix. an interesting idea from a udub blog
Another point of discussion is playing an annual game in Asia, with Japan probably being the primary target. The NFL has been playing international preseason games, and travel does take a toll. Therefore, if the Pac Ten does go to Asia, look for it to be a season opener with an NCAA exemption to play the game in late August. Therefore, no matter where the calendar falls so each team is certain of a bye-week after the event."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. So Colorado has a bigger local TV market. However when you take into account all the BYU fans in AZ and CA the picture starts to change. By taking BYU over Utah you get both markets plus all the BYU fans in AZ and Cali.Originally posted by statman View PostBut adding BYU and Utah chases the same money twice. Apologies to the Cougar fans, but nobody would take BYU over Utah, or BYU over Colorado. BYU's only hope would be that Colorado (in this scenario) would decline and the Pac-10 would take both BYU and Utah.Originally posted by Shaka View PostSo Colorado has a bigger local TV market.
