No doubt ... python is a heck of lot more readable. Also, it seems like it has some nice goodies like good interfaces with numerical libraries (which actually has real upside for me). I just have never taken the time to learn it beyond learning the basics of it like 8 years ago.

My one qualm with Pelagius is not his choice of a programming language, but his insistence on an overly strict and rigid input data format (*cough* FORTRAN *cough*). I mean c'mon... you can parse out the data you need only if it is delimited with a pipe ('|')?! How hard is it to add a colon ':' to your regex?!
