Ty Detmer threw 5 picks against Oregon, coughed up the ball twice down the stretch against Penn State to cost them a bowl game, had 5 picks against a crappy Utah State team, lost two games to Hawaii by 42 and 31 points, lost to Texas A&M by 51 and so on and so forth.

For those individuals that feel compelled to bitch and whine they will look at things like the above and ignore the positive.

EDIT: Let's don't forget his careless INT against Iowa in his final game that cost BYU a chance to win instead of tie.

You met a true blue zoob. According to zoobs, BYU never loses because the other team was better. The only team that beats BYU is BYU.

If expecting your QB to perform well in clutch situations against good teams is unreasonable, then so be it.

I like Max Hall. Besides that he is the best QB BYU has had in the program the last two years and upcoming year.

If a fan doesn't think he is good enough, don't blame him, blame the coaches for not recruiting a better QB.

As far as I am concerned he is plenty good enough and I have no problem with the coaches not having recruited a better one.

It's unreasonable to expect the QB to perform well in every clutch situation, in every game and against every good team they play.

Max Hall has the best W-L in BYU history for games decided by 7 points or less.

What are the records of the teams he beat in those close games?

So it was unreasonable to expect a great performance out of him against TCU and Utah last year.

Someone should have told me that before I watched the games.

On the bright side, you've been told that now. So I suggest you tune out for Oklahoma, FSU, Utah and TCU this year. No fair claiming ignorance this time next year.

Does that really matter? Do you really think that's a significant factor compared to other BYU QBs in similar situations? Think carefully before answering.

I sure do think it's significant. And why is Hall being judged against other BYU quarterbacks? I never said I was doing that.

The premise is if BYU has had great QBs in the past, then let's look at how they performed in similar situations to gauge what a reasonable expectation is for the current QB who isn't necessarily a great BYU QB.

If you can determine that the standard you are looking for is not to be consistently found in the great BYU QBs of the past, then you can reasonably conclude that your standard is unreasonable and you are inevitably headed for disappointment.
