The weight history has in college football is insane.

I don't care if your school won 13 championships before World War II. What have you done lately?

The same goes for BYU. I don't care that the team won a championship in 1984. That's nice, but the kids on the team now weren't even alive when that went down.

If I'm a recruit, I look at the recent history, 10 years, tops. What Notre Dame did when my dad was in diapers doesn't interest me.

Nonsense. Bashing the Utes is a perennial activity!

Also, thank you for recognizing BYU's far superior tradition, as measured by national championships.

how do you feel about Heismans?...

So, I guess I shouldn't mention Utah's national championship when basketball season starts to demonstrate BYU's inferiority on the hardwood?

I like to picture Bronco using this line with Manti, convincing the kid that Bronco is crazy and pushing him into the waiting arms of Charlie Weis.

Notre Dame = 11 consensus National Championships (+ 2 possibles):

              1924, 1929, 1930, 1943, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1966, 1973, 1977, 1988.

The two possibles are 1938 and 1953. In 1938, 8-1 Notre Dame was awarded the national championship by the Dickinson System, while Texas Christian (which finished 11-0) was awarded the championship by the Associated Press. In the 1953 season, an undefeated Notre Dame team (9-0-1) was named national champion by every major selector except the AP and UPI (Coaches) polls, where the Irish finished second in both to 10-1 Maryland. As Notre Dame has a policy of only recognizing AP and Coaches Poll national championships post-1936, the school does not officially recognize the 1953 national championship.

Even if we discount everything before LaVelle, as only the small-minded care about seasons older than 40 years, its still 3 to 1 in favor of the Irish.

              Thanks for playing Bronco.

Go ahead and mention it. I really won't get upset if Boylen claims the Utes have as much right to get into the field of 64 as the Fighting Irish.

I don't obsess on your coaches.

At least the forward pass had been invented when BYU won their national title; basketball hadn't even invented the jump shot when Utah won theirs.

Manti is not old enough to remember Notre Dame's glory days. As far as he personally has experienced, Notre Dame is a mediocre football school.

Storied and tradition suggests a long history of success. That would be longer than 40 years.

BYU's success over time would equal or exceed any automatic qualifying school in the country.
None of you have touched this one yet

One does not need to obsess to notice when someone says something really, really, really stupid.

I'm not obsessing on Obama, but even I have noticed that he really, really, really messed up healthcare reform.
