It cracks me up that ute fans care what Mendenhall has to say. Outside of those things directly related to performance on the football field - mainly player personnel - I couldn't give a rat's ass what Kyle Whittingham is saying. I have a hard time understanding why ute fans care so much about Bronco and his opinions.

It is a thing with certain segments of a fan base. CB has it's rabid Kyle "gotcha" club.

Right, nobody cared when he (Kyle) said he had the best QB situation in the country in 2006.

Gee I missed Bronco saying that. Maybe he is a buffoon.

I certainly didn't. Like I said, I just have a hard time understanding why people do. As '71 mentioned, BYU fans (mostly CB) do the same with Whittingham. It just doesn't make sense to me. But whatever floats your boat.

No one has responded to the fact that these kids probably look more at their personal knowledge of a team than their accomplishments from 40 years ago.

Does Michigan's storied history mean they'll be great in 2008? Apparently not. It doesn't make sense to look back at a time when there were completely different coaches, different players, different opponents, etc. etc. when deciding where to play football.

The "storied program" crap is just an attempt for schools to leverage meaningless information into blue-chip recruits.

So are you saying, DU and SS think like "small minded" BYU fans?

Wow, that piece is pure catnip for BYU fans, the majority of whom, I suspect, fervently believe this:
"What's the difference between Notre Dame's history and BYU's history?" Mendenhall asked. "Why do they have an automatic bid and why doesn't BYU? If you look at storied programs and tradition, where is that line drawn? BYU's success over time would equal or exceed any automatic qualifying school in the country."

How does BYU's bowl game record stack up against Notre Dame's? Anyone know?

BY the way, the premier MWC program in this decade is Utah. Just thought I'd mention that.

Unless a coach says they are the reincarnation of Anastasia and start prancing around the press room saying "Look at me, I'm a fairy princess!" , I really don't care what they say. I find the whole coachspeak parsing stuff to be boring and juvenile. That includes BYU fans who obsess about Urban or Whittingham's overstated nonsense.

Again, what is your frame of reference? BYU's bowl record is better than Notre Dame's over the last 15 years, even though BYU's record is pretty poor.
