I am pretty sure there were no college football coaches there, but I can't be 100% sure. I am also pretty sure there were no signs, ribbons, streamers, glitter, etc.

I do remember receiving my call, which was very different than today's custom of inviting the friends, live-streaming, etc.

I was the only one at home at the time (unusual, as there were 8 of 9 kids living there at the time). I opened it and saw that I was called to Hong Kong. No one was around to tell the news to, so I rode my bike over to the elementary school, where the annual school fair was being held, and my mother was there. I found her, and let her know. She cried, and said "That's so far away!" I thought that was odd, as whether I was in Hong Kong or Des Moines, our contact would be pretty much the same
I can't either. I remember changing planes at DFW, but after that it's blank.

I remember coming home from war much more clearly. No one besides my family would have been welcome there.

Edit: as for opening the call, my mom brought the letter downstairs to my room, and I opened it there. I think I was still in bed from a late night and it was probably like 10 in the morning. No fanfare, and I was a little disappointed not to be going Spanish speaking like the rest of my family, but that feeling quickly left. I can't imagine going anywhere else than England.

He should be, but it seems they have been more focused on distance lately. And they are getting a lot better there.

If Kuithe didn't blow up his knee, he would be gone. But he is now leaning to return.

Rising is going to be an interesting case study. He said he likely played his last game at Rice-Eccles on senior day but that dynamic may have shifted when they won the conference.

If he enters the draft, he is undoubtedly 7th round /udfa. With NIL (he is rumored to be about 500K right now), financially he would be better off returning for another year of college and entering in what is likely a weaker QB class next year.

I think this is where schools like Utah and BYu should flex their NIL money. Enticing known star players, who are borderline pro prospects, to stay for their senior year instead of entering the draft. Much better ROI than the unknown of HS recruits, IMO.

"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

There's a dilemma because there's a freshman behind Rising, Nate Johnson, who next year may be better.

Programs are flexing their muscles. Why do you think Penix stayed at Washington.

You're referring to my original post I think. I promise you I'm not that guy. My questions/comments about Connover refer to BYU possibly having screwed this up.. I'm well aware that he was a stud in HS and that he could've upgraded at any time the past 3 years. When they threw an injured Jaren on the field multiple times this year vs playing Connover I assumed that he hadn't played well enough to merit the field somehow. When a program as good as ASU scooped him up within minutes I'm wondering wtf we missed.

I think one thing is clear: Roderick is not a believer in Conover, but ARod is not flawless. Conover could thrive in a different system. Chad Lewis thought he was the best QB recruit in years when Conover was fresh off him mission. I Hope he does really well at asu.

I was referring to JL's post, not yours.

he could thrive in byu's system. just because he wasn't given a chance, (and i know i'm sorta preaching to the choir, gm) doesn't mean he can't play.
                        I'm like LeBron James.
