BYU Recruiting

Maybe you guys already knew this, but listening to Jake Hatch yesterday, he said that Devoux Tuataga is not a recruit that the previous defenseive coaching staff would have even targeted. They didn't want to get into any recruiting battles with someone that had other FBS offers. Instead, they went with the "diamond in the rough" strategy. I love it when someone who didn't even make it onto the recruiting trackers (Rivals, 247, etc.) boards ends up being a starter and a good player. But, that's not going to happen very often, and certainly not with every 2 star or below recruit.
I'm sure being in the B12 is helping us to stay in the battle and win recruits with other P5 offers. But, I'm also really liking what I'm hearing and seeing from this new defensive coaching staff.
With all of that praise, we still need to get better (and I think we will). Rivals has the 2024 class currently at #67 and #12 out of the current 14 B12 teams, ahead of Houston and Kansas St. 247 Sports has us at a similar #66 rank. Their B12 ranking for 2024 already leaves off Oklahoma and Texas and adds the PAC newcomers. They put us #12 out of 16, ahead of Utah, Colorado, Houston, and Kansas St. Of course, the transfer portal will continue to play a big role as well (see Colorado). 247 Sports lists BYU as #20 in the 2023 transfer portal rankings, putting us at #2 in the current B12.
It's going to be a bit of a transition to the B12, but it looks like we are definitely on the upswing with the talent that we are bringing in!

If it has to do with a girlfriend, all the more reason she should be thrilled he is going to BYU.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
Here is the story I heard: she is thrilled for her son, but was a little perturbed that her son's girlfriend and her family decided to crash the party.

I'm sure it's something very benign.

How do you know?Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostSince everyone had BYU stuff on ready to go, I'd concede there may be something to the idea she's not thrilled but mostly I doubt that. Some people HATE being in the limelight and knowing they are makes them nervous and to many people looking on these people come across as indifferent or even angry (ask me how I know).

Here is Dad's post 5 minutes before the hat ceremony

Or she's not a fan of BYU and knew he was heading there all along.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postmuch ado about nothing, imo.
i think it's just her demeanor. her expression didn't change the entire time. it's not as if she sat there excited, with a big smile on her face before his selection. she looked like she was either bored with the entire process or she's just a stoic woman in general.

That would be remarkable, seeing as how everybody else standing right behind them seemed to know what was coming.Originally posted by LiveCoug View Post
I'm sure it's something very benign. But I'm not sure if the parents actually did know in advance. The kid's dad tweeted out that he thought Oregon or Oregon State would be the best place for his son. Literally 5 minutes before the decision was aired on my TV

No she really doesn't haha.Maybe a Utah fan? Anyway, quick look at his stats and intangibles, seems like a very good pickup indeed and we needed some more edge defenders coming inOriginally posted by LiveCoug View Post
