It seems that folks expect BYU to pick up another good OL, Jax Tanner son of former BYU MLB in the 2003 year Mike Tanner, and Ben Bywater's kid brother, Adam. We will see what other surprises there might be for this year but I think that the class is getting close to wrapped up.

BYU has improved its average rating per HS/JC recruit by more than 5 points since 2020. 2020 was the first good year in a long time. Obviously, as t0 what that team really was is unknown given the crazy COVID season and the soft BYU schedule. But following that year BYU recruiting really started picking up. The mixture of that good season, inclusion in the Big 12, finally beating Utah significantly improved the recruiting ratings of the athletes BYU was able to sign. BYU built on that by improving its staff and dedicating more resources to recruiting as the Big 12 money started coming in and BYU admin decided to allow wealthy boosters to donate to their hearts content.

BYU's average recruit rating in 2020 was 82.46. It moved to the mid 84s for 2021 and 2022. It took another step up to mid 85s in 2023. In 2025 it moved to mid 86s and this class has an average rating per recruit of 87.86.

I understand there also might have been rating inflation over these years, but I think if you look at the other offers this class has versus previous years there is no way to conclude anything but BYU is landing players more in demand than before.

I am not one for getting worked up over an individual recruit but collectively this is something to be really excited about. It is getting to the point where BYU will be physically overmatched by only the elite blue blood programs. After that top 8 or 10 or whatever it is athletically BYU will be everybody else's equal or better.

What a great time to be alive!

And I can take solace in the fact that I have more time to enjoy this than a number of our distinguished members.

Seriously though, I was listening to the Locked on Big 12 podcast and the Utah guest called BYU the biggest brand in the Big 12. I never dared hope that one day we would be in a power conference, but to believe we would have top 10 recruiting classes and amazing and mind-blowing commits (Dybantsa) was never even a dream.

    GIVE 'EM HELL, BRIGHAM!!

I was just at a family reunion and then the 4th with my very Ute BIL. He had a great time throughout the losing streak and independence. Lately he has been relegated to complaining about BYU dirty tricks and money and also about how the bogus holding call handed us the game. "They were playing like that all game and decided to call it only at the end!". Apart from telling him that I warned him during the peak of Utah football in the Pac 12 that everything is cyclical and eventually it would flip, I just responded with "You know who you sound like lately? A despondent BYU football fan in 2014."

I know what goes around comes around and it will come around again to get me eventually. But I'm going to squeeze every last drop of joy and trolling out of this unprecedented time. It wouldn't be fair to Ute fans if I did anything less!

Up to now and on paper this is one of the best recruiting years for BYU in a very long time. The experts at 247 rank BYU as 25th nationally and I think tops in the Big 12. Rumors have there are more likely to commit from the 2026 class in the next week or two. I try to not get to excited about recruits individually, but I do think collective recruiting rankings tell an important story. It is obvious that the inclusion in Big 12 and the BYU administration allowing boosters to open their wallets is paying dividends. If BYU can keep this up for two more recruiting seasons-they will have one hell of a talented roster.

However kids I seen in small school idaho ball, one went to a small Iowa college to play ball. Fewer people watch his games there than rural Idaho. Hasn’t played much there. Has state championship and runner up under belt. Crying for twenty minutes after that loss to team that one four championships in a row. Moved up division but will be down next year. That team sent a few kids to small school ball. They dominated most teams.

We had kid from neighboring school playing for Eastern Oregon, played with us since school didn’t field varsity football team and didn’t knock us up. Student assistant right now. May play next year. Talk of co opting right now won’t happen. C of I small school in Caldwell had a couple small school recruits from our area, one didn’t play last year and other kid that signed I checked not on roster.

One kid on our team signed with some South Dakota juco. Wants to be physical therapist. He joined the church last year. Hopefully he will stay active. Nice if mission is in plans. I don’t think byu will get real small school athletes though.
Our big kid, Teague Mathews, committed to play FB at Utah once he gets home from his mission next summer. I thought the Smith brothers out of Camas could have both played college sports-either hoops or football, somewhere. Kendrick also had a bunch the last two years. Their QB, Ty Koepp, was a stud and I think went to Montana Tech to play FB. However, he is back in Kendrick as the HC of their football team now so he only made it in Beautiful Butte, MT for one year or less.
