You still are not grasping it, but seem to be getting closer.Originally posted by byu71 View PostYou have to count all games played throughout history. BYU could go back to the Crowton era. BYU could go back to the pre-Lavelle era. The PAC10 shit teams could actually get good again.
Do I have it right DDD and Indy.
Are you as excited as I am about BYU winning 10 games in each of the next 3 seasons? I know it is going to happen!Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

we did, too. In fact, I have a horrible admission to make to the group. That game was the ONLY time in my life that I have ever worn a wig to a sporting event.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostMy brother made the mistake of driving from Provo for that game. His solace was getting to sit on the front row of a Jay Leno show.
We were road tripping down with a small group of about 4 of us. At the last minute, a 5th guy was added to the group. I guess this guy was the head of Cougar Pride or whatever that student group was called. The group had just been founded and he was one of the honchos. He also had a real "in" on the EFY circuit, and one of the guys in our roadtrip group wanted to be an EFY counselor....so he invites this Cougar Pride/EFY guy to roadie with us to UCLA....I guess in hopes of currying favor, getting to know him, etc.
About halfway down to LA, the Cougar Pride guy announces that he brought surprises for all of us. He busts out this duffel bag filled with blue and white wigs.
He also had face paint. Not wanting to offend this guy, and wanting to help out our friend, we all pretend to be excited about the wigs and "crazy face paint."
I felt ridiculous walking around Arroyo Seco tailgate wearing that stupid wig. It made my head itch. It gave me hat hair (this was back when I had a lot of hair). And spirit items are much less fun when your team is getting waxed before your eyes.
That was a miserable game. I have never worn a wig to a game since that time. I refuse to wear face paint, but that dates back to one childhood Halloween.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

i forgot about virginia. yes, you are correct. apologies!Originally posted by Fiyero View PostCheck your schedule. Yes last year's Ohio State game came after a bye week.
but SC did play the final week of the season when most other teams were already done. I am not sure why SC had so many byes last season. It isn't typical.
usually, Pete asks for his bye after the first game. This upcoming season, he is skipping that and they are taking the bye before fucla at the end of the season.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Same point about BYU. Do your research and understand there's a lot more going on than a handful of recent games to be basing future expectations.Originally posted by byu71 View PostActually, why do you think they are on there. Anybody stupid enough not to know that already, shouldn't be investing anyway.

Who are the most recent teams to move into BCS conferences, and how have they fared? The only one that comes to mind is Louisville, and it took them what, three years to win their conference and a BCS bowl? A person could say "yeah but that's just the Big East." However if that's the case, last year the MWC did a decent job of showing the Pac-10 was "just the Pac-10."

List all the PAC-10 teams that lost last year to MWC teams and what their overall records were.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostWho are the most recent teams to move into BCS conferences, and how have they fared? That 1993 was my first BYU football game.
Took my endowments out getting ready for my mission in the morning. Dad and I watching BYU get waxed by UCLA in the afternoon.
Day started out with me scratching my head wondering about all types of crazy things, and it ended with me scratching my head wondering about all types of crazy things.
68-14 was easier to understand than that first temple trip though.

There have been nine games against the Pac-10 during the Bronco era. On one hand that IS the most relevant sample because it's recent history and involves the current coaching regime. On the other hand, it simply isn't enough of a sample size from which to draw any conclusions.Originally posted by byu71 View PostYou have to count all games played throughout history. I do think that one can include the sample between 1979 and 1990 with the Bronco sample and draw some kind of conclusion. The program between 1979 and 1990 was in a very similar position that it's in right now. There was noticeable dropoff in the program after 1990 (maybe 91 would be more accurate because that was Detmer's last year), a number of 4-6 loss seasons while during the previous dozen seasons (79-90) BYU had averaged over 10.25 wins a year. BYU between 91-04 averaged 7.8 wins and that's counting the 14 win 1996 season. Bronco right now is averaging 9.5 wins a season and that's counting the 6-6 2005 season.
Between 79-90, BYU went 5-5 against the Pac-10. Bronco has gone 5-4 against the Pac-10. That's 10-9 and that's sampling 16 seasons where the program, judging by the number of wins, is in a relatively similar situation.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
