In the replay I saw, it just looked like the defender stopped short at the 1st down marker, and Simon kept running. The the defender was playing catch up. I don't know if he thought he had help or what, but it seemed to me like he thought they were going for a quick first down throw at the sideline and was playing for that.

Here's another question, if anyone knows - why didn't Ty'son have his name on the back of his jersey? He's the only one who didn't, right? What happened? I was in the car and listened to most on the radio - haven't watched any of the game except for overtime and just found that odd.

He had it on his jersey for the first half. His jersey had a huge rip in it underneath one of the arms. I'm talking a huge rip. So a jersey switch at half was needed.

In the second quarter Ty Chandler took off to the right deep in Tenn territory and looked like he was gone for the TD. Our guys trailing the play were never going to catch him. But Ghanwoloku came from the opposite side of the field with the perfect angle to catch him and eventually keep Tenn to a FG. Awesome play.

Utah fanbase is nuts.

The best part of their fanbase is how much we're still in their heads. Two BCS wins, acceptance into a P5, multiple top 25 finishes, and NINE wins in a row over us and they still cannot leave us alone. Man this is one large dose of inferiority. I believe that what motivates them is BYU. All the great things that have happend to them in football can be traced to their constant need to be better than BYU. If they ever stop obsessing over us, that is the day you know the rivalry is over.

There were thousands of BYU fans at the tailgate. The tailgate wasn't that great, TBH, but Cougar fans were well represented. On our way into the stadium we heard many comments about people's dismay at the number of Cougar fans, with my favorite being "There so damn many of them, where did they come from?"

I was ticked when Kalani punted it away on 4th and 4 with 3:25 left from the 36 yard line and 2 timeouts left. I'm obviously happy that it worked out but still a little annoyed because he will feel justified with that call the next time it comes up. Am I wrong here?

I would guess the odds of a 4th and 4 conversion are about the same as two point conversion (similar in situation leverage, a little longer but without the endzone constraints), about a 45% chance to convert. And the reward is having the ball at your own 40 yard line with 3 minutes left and two timeouts. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Any idea what the win probability difference would be in the three scenarios? Punt, convert, or fail?

I'm with you. I figured the ONLY way BYU has a chance if they give the ball back to Tennessee is by getting a 3 and out. And they can do that either after punting it, or before. So they may as well roll the dice and give themselves an extra shot at the first down before turning the game over to the defense.

They needed to play the 3rd down as if they had 2 downs to get the 1st - and call it that way.

I was told that BYU was allocated 8000 tickets to start with. When those where sold UTenn allocated another 4000. Who knows how many more BYU fans picked up tickets from other sources.

It is near impossible to have any certainty on the exact number, that is for sure, but 12,000 to 15,000 would seem about right.

I assume the corner thought the safety would pick up Simon, so he let him go. Simon made a nice move after catching the ball, makng the safery miss and allowing him to pick 30-40 yards to put us into FG range.

Only 28 yards, exactly. The ball was on the 19, the pass went from the 19 to the Tennessee 44 (actually from about the 10 with the drop back), and then he ran to the 16. So the pass was 36 yards (about 45 in the air), and the run was 28 yards. = 64 yards total.

the line was 3 points, so it will be considered a very mild upset at the time using that standard. Emotionally, any road win at an SEC team feels like a bigger upset, of course.

My point was that looking into the future, when all is said and done it's not going to be considered an upset if Tennessee only has 2 or 3 wins this year. I suspected that this was going to end up being the type of game where it would have eventually made us look really bad at the end of the year if we didn't win. Obviously I hope Tennessee turns out to be much better than that.
