  • Tcu/bsu

I think this will be a really good game. I am also glad that BSU opted not to stay at home and play an uninterested Maryland team. Although it will probably be lightly watched and long forgotten by the time the real bowls are played this should be a battle.

I think that BSU will probably win.

Edit-It was an unintentional small b on BSU in the title, not to be viewed as any kind of statement.

The software does it automatically. It won't let you use allcaps in the thread titles.

Yeah, it's called the "Prevent SHOUTING" feature. Seems kind of silly for a sports-related board where we use lots of acronyms. I just turned it off. Let me know if it gets annoying and you want it back on.

The MWC needs TCU to win this game.

It's interesting that a bunch of MWC fans will hope for a Utah loss or a BYU loss, arising from rivalry hatreds, but I suspect few, if any MWC fans will be cheering for BSU. I'd love to see the Frogs stuff the Broncos. I think the game will be close, in part because TCU's offense isn't all that high-powered, but I'd bet on TCU. Is there a line yet?

It's not just rivalry hatred. It's rational as a BYU fan to want Utah to get waxed in this game and any other game. Utah and BYU compete in the same space for limited resources, i.e. Utah/LDS football recruits and fans. The battle we share in fighting for national respect is arguably a lesser concern.

I'm not sure how i want their game to go. In my gut I like KW and I think it will be hard to cheer against him in a BCS game.

I'm not sure which way I'm leaning either. A Ute win makes my daughter very happy; there are many Ute fans I like so I'd be happy for them; and the MWC could use the respect. But who doesn't enjoy seeing their rival get throttled? I guess I'll find joy in either result.

I think this is a game that TCU should win. Their defense should be able to hold BSU to 21 points, the question is whether their offense can score.

This is another aspect of the rivalry that exposes the small-time nature of things.

Who the hell cheers for their rival under any circumstance?

Do Dodger fans cheer for the Giants because it would improve the strength of the NL West?

Do Red Sox and Yankees cheer for each other to increase the exposure of the American League?

For al you in the "it helps the MWC" camp, how exactly has Utah's success helped BYU this year?

Are you under the deluded impression that the MWC conference is now respected? If so, why didnt the Utes 2004 BCS run put the final nail in the disrespect coffin? Why didnt BYU's 1996 run solidify our respect level? What about our Heisman? Our National Championship?

Why do we always seek respect year in and year out?

Because the media and fans do NOT respect non-BCS conferences. Never will.

So no, I don't cheer for Utah. Or Wyoming. Or San Diego State.

You consider Wyoming a rival? Wow! We really are small time.

I cheer for the MWC in bowl games, unless I bet against them. Cheering for Utah is hard. I start the game cheering for Utah, but it's so unnatural that I end up hoping they lose.

No, but if Wyoming were having a good season (stifles laughter), some of you here would cheer for Wyoming because in some parellel universe out there, BYU is going to derive some palpable benefit.

But I agree that the MWC is small time. Look at our bowl tie-ins. That alone is pathetic.

I prefer you to use the we/us pronouns when you refer to USC and use you/your pronouns when referring to BYU. We (BYU fans) don't really give a shit that you (USC fans) think our program and conference are small time.

I cannot see Boise State winning this game. Boise State has an average defense and a real good offense. I see TCU coming in and their speed will throw off the Broncos. I see Boise State struggling all game to get things going. TCU has gone up against some very good offenses all year long and held them in check.

Of note--TCU has given up more than 15 points this year ONE time. Yes, ONE time and that was to Oklahoma (who scored 35 points, their lowest of the season). Nine opponents scored 10 points or less during the season. That is impressive.

                            TCU 24 Boise State 17

I want Utah to lose to Bama. And I hope they lose badly. And I hate Nick Saban. A lot.
