Max Hall: Overrated?

If anything Hall is underrated by BYU fans. Everyone seems to overlook like HL said his 21-5 record as a starter, 7900 passing yards, 66 total tds and only 24 ints, while completing 65% of his passes.
He is also 2-2 against Utah and TCU. He has a legit shot to win 30 games as a starter in his career.
Also on a side note Jan Jorgensen has a chance to win 40+ games as a starter for BYU, that is pretty damn impressive.*Banned*

I think Hall is who he is. He is an excellent QB in a system that fits his talents well. The fact that he underperformed under the brightest lights last year should not change this fact. He has some flaws that will hurt him at times and others he can cmpensate for them.
I do think that if he comes out and struggles against OU and FSU, there will be some real pressure on him and it will be interesting to see if he starts pressing and forcing the issue again."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Collie is a big loss but I think for Max's development as a quarterback it is a good thing that Collie is gone. Collie had a big influence on on how Max distributed the ball in more ways than one.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostIf you look at those games you'll notice a key element. Max was actually looking off receivers in '07. His main problem last year was that he thought he could do anything he wanted and all he wanted to do was throw the ball to Collie."Take it to the Bank"

that would be dumb. He's going to get more reps than last year unless he thinks that McKay AND Chambers are head and shoulders above him."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

I think we will get an opportunity to see how Max progresses in this area before the start of the season.
In the offseason, when Beck wanted to get some guys out to practice, he'd call 30-40 players and invite them out. You could see this late in the season when he'd toss some beautiful no-look completions to Zac Collie and other minor receivers.
I've been told that in the (last) offseason, when Hall wanted get some guys out to practice, he'd call 3-4 players and invite them out. His wife socializes with their wives, it's all very cliqueish to me. The guys in his closeknit group may live a higher law than the rest, but he needs a little more outreach to the rest of the team.
This striving for perfection within a closeknit group of completely dedicated players may have worked for him when he was the scout team QB, or even the backup QB, but he needs to lead the entire team now.
I'd be interested in seeing how Hall's informal practice sessions have changed this summer, compared to what he's done before. I bet as he practices, so he will play.

The idea that the 2009 season of BYU football could be brought down by a cliquish Mormon wife club appeals to me greatly.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI think we will get an opportunity to see how Max progresses in this area before the start of the season.

Hell be the best QB in the MWC by a mile this year...although Dalton made great strides from his Freshmen to Sophmore season and Clayton is intriguing."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'm ready to what Max can do. (Some on this thread seem to think he already has shown us. Aren't we football fans great?)
Kidding aside, I am sure Max is eager to show that he can win big games against big-time competition. He has a chance to do so this season. His destiny is in his own hands.
I remember that going into his senior year, I had some questions about Brian Johnson's ability to lead, stay cool, and win the big ones. A lot can change between a junior and senior year. (I do hope for a similar result in the rivalry game, however . . . .)“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
