    To show where BYU realistically sits in the football landscape. BYU is a step below BSU and programs less than BSU aren’t firing coaches 3 years into their tenure when they are taking 2 out of 3 teams to bowl games.

    BYU is performing in line with their schedule. If they were grossly underperforming their schedule fire the dude but he isn’t.

    Let’s say they fire him, now what?

    Who can you convince to come to BYU?

    Bevell? Hasn’t recruited in 20 years
    Anderson? Has a pretty awesome gig already
    Hill? He ain’t coming

    I didn’t post 50% against the MW I posted 70%.

    BYU over the past 20 years wins against P5 teams wins at a 40% clip.

    If you have a heavier P5 load it’s going to negatively impact your other games.

    If BYU is going to schedule 4-6 P5 teams a year, the past 20 years says they are to go start every season with 3 losses. BYU is 2-7 against BSU and dominates USU so split that those 2 games every year, 4 losses. Now throw in a cross country game and a couple G5’s that are fairly comparable to BYUs current state and 7-5 should be considered a successful year from here on forward.

    And the analog is really close too because admin is a stand for the major donor.

Name consecutive seasons in the past 20 where BYU goes back to back top 10 finishes?

    BYU is performing right where they should, 40% win rate against P5s, toss ups against the MW, and wins against all the others in the schedule.

    Rational expectations should be 40% against P5, 70% against the MW, and 90% against everyone else.

    This year you had a freshman QB and a new OC what did people expect?

    They should extend him for 2 years so you don’t have a lame duck recruiter, let next year be a building block because next year is going to be awful, and evaluate after the 2020 season.

    We've played Tennessee level teams on the road a few times since going independent. We beat Michigan State. We lost to Mississippi State. We lost to Virginia by a point in a down pour. We hammered Georgia Tech. I'd call that game 50/50.

    We've lost a couple of Toledo/South Florida type games but we win more than we lose. Toledo and USF both lost to every decent team they played this year. It would be disappointing to lose either of those games if Wilson is healthy.

    Utah = Utah but with a better spot on the schedule
    Tenn < Arizona
    USC > Cal (probably. If Helton is still coach, I like our chances)
    Washington < @Washington
    USF/Toledo < Northern Illinois
    Boise < @Boise (Boise also needs a new QB and we know they wanted Wilson to be that QB)
    USU = USU
    Fodder = Fodder
    @SDSU > Hawaii
    Tennesse easily out talents both BYU and AZ. They're only a few years removed from being a top 30-40 team and could easily take that step next year.

    USC easily out talents both BYU and Cal. Yeah they're trending the wrong way but Helton has recently coached USC to back to back top 10 finishes

    Washington loses some experienced talent but is very well coached and also out talents us. They're easily be a top 15 type team.

    Toledo has been a 30-50 team the past 4 years. I expect they stay in that range. Eastern time zone games are usually pretty tough for BYU so this will be a tough game.

    USF has been more variable (top 70 to 20) than Toledo but have a bigger upside. This is also a long eastern road trip.

    SDSU is pretty consistent like Toledo (top 30-50). They're a run and D type team and return their oline and RBs so they should be fine on offense. They do lose quite a bit on their dline. I expect them to be a 30-40 type team next year.

    USU loses quite a few key players but returns Love at QB. I think they'll take be more like a top 50 team than a top 25 team.

Washington is probably not winnable but they will be breaking in a new QB. After the opening 4 games I think 5-3 would be a disappointment. Toledo and South Florida are very average G5 teams. SDSU just lost to a Hawaii team that we annihilated. Utah State and Boise should be the only close games we play after Sept 21. The schedule was tougher this year than next.

    How do you think byu fares in the SEC this year? I’ll answer for you. Last.

    Big 12- slightly above Kansas

    Pac-12- if they are in the South they prob finish 3rd-4th same spot as Arizona.

    Next year

    Utah- L
    @Tennessee after an emotional game against Utah- L
    USC- they reload quickly- L
    UW- about to win the Pac-12-L

    @Toledo- after another brutal September we will be banged up-L
    @USF- Cross country road trip, only hope is we are coming off a bye. Still...-L

    Utah state and Boise-L

    Liberty, Idaho state and Umass- W

    @SDSu- toss-up

    Could we still Toledo and/or USF? Sure.

    But this team will really struggle to be bowl eligible next year.

    USC has said they're staying with Clay for now.

    Tennessee can still out talent us even if they're a mediocre team. Toledo, USF and SDSU are usually solid to good teams. I'd expect USU to take a step back next year as they're losing their oline, most of their WR along with several on defense and possibly a new coaching staff. BSU is fairly young this year but will have a new QB and a couple WR to replace.

    Projecting to next year is tricky. Here's a graph of S&P+ percentile averages of BYU's FBS opponents. For 2019 the solid line is using the current percentiles. The dashed lines are using the best or worst 8 to 1 year averages of next years opponents percentiles.

    I'd expect next year to be between 2016 and 2013 in terms of difficulty.
