His feelings are toward BYU are unfortunate but pretty natural.

      Natural in what way?

These are pervasive personality characteristics and it blows my mind that people somehow think a doctor who who is rude, insecure-acting, and defensive outside the OR could then be this awesome surgeon. That split-personality thing doesn't happen very often.

I think he feels that he got bad advice during his time there. Most people in the same situation would probably feel the same way.

Yup I could understand being mad at the doctor but not at BYU since I'm sure that BYU has never exerted any pressure on the docs to make kids play hurt or anything like that.

It's kind of an interesting question about what kind of orthopedic surgeon to have treating the players.

Makes sense sort of to have a "volunteer" doc like Kimball with no financial compensation from BYU at all. That way he can say he is totally independent and not controlled by BYU.

However the type of Superfan Orthopedist that that kind of arrangement attracts would be the type of Doc who wants BYU to win and might occasionally put his short-term desire to win ahead of a kid's long-term health.

Might be good to instead have some nerdy non-American Doc who couldn't care less about football, doesn't even know the rules, to give some totally unbiased medical advice.

It doesn't hurt that Kimball's dad is the biggest BYU athletics donor. Doesn't put the school in a bad position at all.

Also, he should have no medical training. You know, to make sure he is not biased by privileged educators.

                    OK. That makes sense.

I wonder how his "eye popping" stats would have changed had he played against respectable competition.

Playing in the MWC? How is that possible?
