    Interesting stuff in there.

I gotta think that these days an orthopedist is never going to let a running back play with a torn ACL. Crazy.

As you know better than most, the advancements in surgery and healing are amazing. I've witnessed healing - via stem cell membranes- of the cornea, I never thought were possible. Though we still have a long way to go to replicate the God-given miracle that is our body.

Interesting article for sure.. Does not put Dr. Kirt Kimball (BYU's volunteer sports Dr.) in good light and it was equally interesting Luke almost pursued suing BYU over some of these things..

The pain, I can imagine his bitterness and what could have been.

I wasn't sure how to interpret that part of the article. It sounds like Luke wanted to play the bowl game, and Kimball wasn't convinced the MRI findings were diagnostic of an ACL tear. So I'm guessing he went in the knee to do the minimum necessary to clean it up. But when he found a complete ACL rupture, that should have been enough to end the season there. Maybe he was going to play the bowl game no matter what. But it doesn't sound like Kimball tried much to advise him against playing.

He changed college football that year.
Detmer broke all of Jimbo's records. But the greatest testament to Ty's greatness is the fact that he started three years and the one in which he took home the Heisman was his worst. To say Detmer couldn't hold McMahon's jock is to ignore history.

He should have fixed it then. That's the whole point of a diagnostic arthroscopy-find out what is wrong if you're not confident in the MRI, and fix it. Good thing he took care of the meniscus tear. That could've been a career ending injury.

I agree. But the article inferred he didn't have complete consent to do that. Not sure it that was true or not.

I don't know anything about the guy. What are the reasons he is considered a butthole?

That is his fault then for not anticipating a likely tear and discussing with LS prior to surgery what they would do in the event a tear was found. The article implied that Luke was expecting that.

He's an excellent surgeon and he will never let you forget it. His bedside manner is not the best.

I have never bought the line "That Doc is an asshole with terrible bedside manner but don't worry about it because he's an amazing surgeon."

In my experience the best surgeons are also nice people. These are pervasive personality characteristics and it blows my mind that people somehow think a doctor who who is rude, insecure-acting, and defensive outside the OR could then be this awesome surgeon. That split-personality thing doesn't happen very often.

I still don't get it, Luke complains so much and he is so jaded towards byu. But he allows both of his boys to play tackle football. In fact he has them in tackle leagues as early as 3rd grade when they could still play flag football for 5 more years.
