The Cotton Bowl wasn't a major bowl when Nebraska went, so no it doesn't count.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostHe is also wrong about Nebraska and the "rare double" of not being a factor in the Big12 and Big Ten as I've already shown. I didn't mention it earlier but Nebraska has been to more than "two major bowls" since 1997 if the Cotton Bowl is included. So in review, Dodd was correct about Osborne retiring in 1997 and that the Husker's last conference championship was 16 years ago. He got more stuff wrong than right in those three sentences.
You said he was playing "loose with the facts." All of the facts he cited are true.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Playing in four conference championship games over ten years does not equal "not being a factor" in those conferences. The definition of "major bowl" is somewhat subjective. I thought the Cotton Bowl was a "major bowl" when I attended and saw BYU play in it.Originally posted by falafel View PostThe Cotton Bowl wasn't a major bowl when Nebraska went, so no it doesn't count.

Shouldn't we stop dwelling in the past and focus on the fact that ESPN has named Nebraska as one of the sleeper teams for this year's CFP?

A voice of reason. Nebraska is on it's way to the CFP. Correct, it will be another Tommie: Tommy Armstrong Jr.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postyeah, Tommie Frazier ain't walking through that door.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

While I knew Armstrong had another year, I felt the same way when I read that the Husker staff intend to redshirt Patrick O'Brien. No worries though, Tommie Frazier is holding the door open for Tommy Armstrong to walk through. Nebraska is undefeated in 2016, drink the red Kool-Aid before it disappears which could happen as soon as 9/17 when the Ducks land in Lincoln.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostI'll stick to what I said last fall: I was simultaneously delighted and horrified when I found out Armstrong Jr had another year left.“Not the victory but the action. Good game, HFN. Even though this may be a down year for the Ducks this was a very important win for Nebraska.
Now we should be 7-0 going into Madison on Oct 29. I think we win that game, but the dream ends in Columbus the following week.
