<potential sacrilege>I need to go back and review the 1998 game against the huskies because watching it at the time, it felt like LaVell did by punting down 10 with about 4 mins left. My view of the strategy at the time may have been shallow, but I was watching it with some friends and we knew it was over by punting. </potential sacrilege>

I was so mad about that decision. Lavell, for being such an innovator, was at times incredibly conservative.

Having negative yards for the quarter, the chance of scoring two TDs was worse than a Lloyd Christmas chance. Cinci wouldn't have converted the 4th down play and it would've ended 45-24.

Exactly. Who cares if you lose by 21 instead of 14, fight for the win. Whit has done this before where it seemed like he was playing to minimize the loss instead of to win.

Absolutely agree 100%. Cincy has some great receivers, BYU a suspect secondary, you throw for 350+ yards per game, throw that ball deep and at least give yourself a chance on fourth down. That was really weird by Tubberville.

One of the things I really like about BYU lately is how often we go for it on 4th down. It's absolutely the right thing to do --nice to have a FG kicker with limited range to force the coaches into the right decision. Just go for it!

It was shocking. I was watching the game at work, and he punted with 4m left, and my shift ended, and I headed out to the car. The stream I was watching must have been a few minutes behind, because once I got in the car there was 90 seconds left and they were talking on the radio about how weird it was he had basically conceded the game.

Could you imagine if Bronco did that? BYU fans would be livid.

As we left the game last night I was trying to back out of my parking spot and my daughter said, "Watch out, there are a couple of old people coming up behind the car". It took the old people a few seconds to clear the car and then I noticed who it was. I said to my daughter, "That's not just any old person, that's Lavell Edwards!".
