lol how would utah fans know much about being selected for bowls in the last three or four years?Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostAlso, I don't think it works this way. I thought beyond the playoff and rose bowl selection, record doesn't enter into it for bowl selection. There is a selection order, but whichever bowl is in line next selects whoever they want that is bowl elligible and sometimes that is a team that finished lower in the conference if they will sell more tickets. Correct me if I'm wrong, PAC 12 people.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

If UCLA beats Utah Stanford/Oregon/USC/WSU would all have around the same record at least in conference. UCLA might be more attractive than Utah. Same with Oregon, stanford/usc in title game, wsu might just be 6th though.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThis is true. However they try to keep as close as possible. For a 3rd/4th place Utah team to fall to 6th would take some serious magic and backdoor favors by the Vegas Bowl. The LV bowl would give anything for that matchup. But I am not sure Utah falls that far.

I think the conference has some say on bowl selections but that might vary by conference. They do try to keep as close as possible, as you mention. One exception I remember was Nebraska's last season/game in the Big 12. The Huskers were slated to play Iowa in a bowl game but the Big 12 wouldn't allow it. The last thing the Big 12 wanted was for Nebraska to have a bowl game against their new "rival" in the Big Ten. So they forced Nebraska to play Washington, a team Nebraska had already played earlier in the season.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThis is true. Maybe the draw of a Utah-BYU matchup might prevail with the PAC-12. It would also depend on the draw of other potential match-ups involving the PAC-12. Utah could get bumped if other PAC-12 teams have a reputation of traveling better.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Utah should have played in the bowl Stanford played in last year, but that bowl was close to Stanford and I think the bowl chair was alumni, so that's who they chose despite the better record.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostAlso, I don't think it works this way. So, you're right. The bowls can basically choose who they want and whoever is left over can be selected afterwards. So, sure. Utah in the Vegas. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

No P12 bowls are not bowl selection based as in other conference, they are tied to order of finish. Winner of conf champ game to Rose, loser to Alamo unless NY6 or playoff selections. This is something that the conference is planning on changing at the next round of bowl contracts as the other conferences are all bowl selection based. FWIW I was told this today by a member of the football staff at Oregon.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostAlso, I don't think it works this way. Compared to Utah, BYU is slightly cheaper has a much higher graduation rate and a much higher starting salary. Don't damage your future by attending Utah! (or USU).

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
