Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

If we beat Cincinnati next week and punch our ticket to the Big12 championship (we aren't losing to UCF), then the Big 12 will be either a 1 or 2 bid league. If it's one bid, it'll be TTech. If it's two bids, it'll be TTech and us. Utah is only going to the CFP if they win the Big 12 championship. There's no way they get in with 3 losses."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Utah only has two losses. Only borderline elite defenses can stop the Beck offense. They aren't losing either of their remaining games.Originally posted by Moliere View PostIf we beat Cincinnati next week and punch our ticket to the Big12 championship (we aren't losing to UCF), then the Big 12 will be either a 1 or 2 bid league. I think the chances of Utah making the playoffs are slim and none, and slim is heading towards the exit. Cincinnati is damaged and reeling, and that is the only possible loss for either BYU or TT. So no championship game for Utah, and no way we pass the loser of the CCG to get an at large. Unless some serious chaos happens next week, Utah will get an Alamo or Holiday bowl invite. Utah vs USC or Oregon might be fun.

This is a funny season. This is the most equality between utah and byu. I think in a ten game series they both would take 5 wins.Originally posted by Moliere View PostIf we beat Cincinnati next week and punch our ticket to the Big12 championship (we aren't losing to UCF), then the Big 12 will be either a 1 or 2 bid league. however another thing they share in common is I think in a ten game series with Texas tech they both might get swept. Texas tech is a legit great team.
I, too, think that byu will handle CINCINATTI next week. Then demolish poor UCF. Likewise Utah should take the Kansas two-step over the next two weeks.
but while I would love to play in the bigXII championship, I actually think that utah has a better path to the playoff without it. Assume that byu wins out in the regular season and then gets pounded again by tcu. Does 11-2 with the two losses coming against the same opponent in blowout fashion get an at-large invite over 10-2 with one blowout loss against tcu and one close-ish game against byu with a ton of blowouts in every other game? I don't know, but I think recency bias tends to favor the Utes in that world.
having said that, I think the most likely scenario now is that the BIGXII ia a one bid league. Which is too bad because I think both utah and byu are top 12 teams.

When I watched the Tech-Utah game, I texted my BYU friends: “Tech is going to be a problem.” Their defense is just better by leaps and bounds than everyone else in the league.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Any Big12 team not in the CCP will get leap frogged by some random SEC or B10 team, or maybe Miami. That’s how this works.Originally posted by Applejack View Post

If there is enough chaos in the rankings ahead of them, it's possible - though unlikely - that Utah would move up enough to grab an at-large spot without having to play in the conference championship game.Originally posted by Moliere View Post
