I think the better Utah does in basketball, the more it helps BYU basketball.
I am using football as the barometer for assessment. I think that both Utah and BYU football benefit from each others' success in different ways. Do they compete head-to-head for recruits and for wins? Yes, but I think that in this case a rising tide raises all ships and that an emphasis on sports at the state of Utah's flagship institution as well as at the flagship institution for the LDS Church creates a lot of intangible benefits in talent development from the ground-up in the community. Additionally, it creates more opportunities when the programs are always scrapping it out for local bragging rights. (think about how incestuous the Football coaching staffs are and how much opportunity that creates) Like it or not, we need each other to elevate our overall status as 'wannabe', but 'neverwillbe' blue blood programs.
Sorry, just being honest.
