Maybe it is the terminology but it sounds by your description that they followed the NFL rule. Are you using 35 yard line as "line of scrimmage"? Typically that sounds like the same as where it was kicked from.

    • I wonder what people would be saying about Anae if the draw play had failed to gain a bunch of yards and a first down to stop the clock and move the chains....?

There's the BYU fan attitude that we all hear about from Utes and Aggies. BYU didn't win the game. Nebraska lost it.

Ha. What kind of DB fan lets the in-game emotions take over like that?

Me. But check out those threads-- that chatter went on WELL beyond game day/week.

I think I made it clear that BYU deserved to win and Nebraska deserved to lose.

In that case, why even mention that BYU's big defensive stops were "aided" by bad play calling by Nebraska? It seems like you are saying that if the play calling had been good, BYU wouldn't have been able to make the stops and Nebraska would have obtained a new first down and eventually won the game. In other words, Nebraska's bad play calling is to blame for BYU's stops, opening the door to the hail mary.

I'd be pissed. Some things can only be justified by success.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

Actually I was listening to Nebraska's play-by-play radio broadcast in the car for the 4th Q and both announcers seemed very stunned at that play call and colored it as very ill-advised.

Freshman QB throwing into dime defense. Sounds like a good calculated risk to me.
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

I thought the difference in the game was that BYU took chances with gutsy play calling while Nebraska played it safe. A definition of a poor play call is running a jet sweep on 3rd-and-3 with a WR who didn't run it well the last time it was called to him and run it into a run blitzing defense. Perhaps I was too harsh on the Nebraska OL because even if they had blocked it well, BYU sent more players at the point of attack than could be blocked. A better call would have been to roll Armstrong out after a misdirection/fake hand-off and give him a run-pass option on the wide side of the field. Now, the BYU defense may still have made that stop...like they did the last two Nebraska drives on 3rd-and-short when, you guessed it, Nebraska ran the ball into a run blitz. To use one of my favorite allusions, Bronco was playing chess and Riley was playing checkers.

That is not an allusion. But it's a fitting, if tired, analogy.
