He's so much better than Taysom that he was better as a high school junior.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

      • It appears Kyler Murray is transferring to Oklahoma. Maybe Murray will have the last laugh (in the Red River Rivalry) when it comes to the Longhorns.

        • Duke seems to always play in a bowl game with a crazy finish. They lose their QB to injury during the first offensive possession of overtime, end up kicking the FG.

Indiana also settles for FG to tie it up and kicks it really high but pretty clearly inside the right upright before the kick veers to the right. Refs call it a miss and run of the field.

Cool thing about sports I guess is that you can always see something you've never seen before -- I don't think I've ever seen a game end on a ref's missed FG goal call.

not sure anyone can say it was clearly in or out, especially without the same views available to them as the refs had.

I think I've posted this here before, but I think they should place a cross bar on top of the uprights. A FG only counts if it makes it into the 4 sided box. Not only would it solve this stupid judgment call on kicks directly over an upright, but it would force kickers to keep the ball lower on close FGs, bringing more blocked kicks into play. Anything that makes short FGs less of a sure thing would help the game, IMO.

              • On a related note, I think I just witnessed the worst targeting call in the history of tackle football in the Neb-UCLA game.

Yeah I would go for that. Totally agree that it's a dumb judgment call to force refs to make as it works now. They could use the soccer/tennis sensor technology to determine if these kicks are in too.

                    Yeah that was pretty bad.

BTW, I think the best available angle on that kick shows that it was likely over the outside half of the upright. Just my opinion.

                        • For some reason I thought this was Tommy Armstrong's last year. When I heard on the broadcast tonight he is a junior I was simultaneously excited and disappointed.

If they call plays for him next year like they did tonight, I would be excited.

I agree. Hopefully our coaches have learned by experience to not be morons in key situations.

The win renewed my hopes for Mike Riley and his staff. But they still had their moronic moments in a couple of key situations. To be fair to Riley, it will be interesting to see what he can do with a QB (O'Brien) that he recruited for the offense he wants to run rather than having to modify the playbook to accommodate Armstrong. Armstrong will graduate when O'Brien is a Soph or RFr so there's that.
