Houston was down 31-6 earlier in the game, with 6 minutes left they were down 34-13. They score, onside and recover, score again, onside and recover, score again and go for two and convert. They lead 35-34 with under a minute to play. Wow.
28 million people watched each of the playoff games.
What the hell took them so long to get this done?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Greed.
I have always argued that someday we would look back on the bowl system and the polls and shake our heads. Really shameful how long it took to change things.
Remember when SU argued that we shouldn't have a playoff system? Ha.

I enjoy the playoffs, but it really did crush the rest of the bowls. I don't give a crap about any of the non-playoff bowls now. I didn't expect that.
I'm guessing that your disinterest in the other bowl games is the same as it's been in previous years. You are just more interested in the playoff games. Your relative interest is therefore lower.
Most bowl games have always been somewhat meaningless. Lavell understood this and used it more as a reward for the players. But then again, nothing is meaningless to fans.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

You guessed WRONG! Or at least partially wrong.
I've never really cared about the majority of the bowls, e.g., the ones that feature two 7-5 teams. But I have historically been interested in the "bigger" bowls like the Holiday, Cotton, Peach, Fiesta, Orange, etc. This year, due to the playoff, I didn't pay attention to any of those bowls. The only bowls I cared/care about are BYU's bowl game and the playoff games. Once it moves to 8 teams, I think the lower tier bowls will start folding altogether. Goodbye Camellia Bowl.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

FTR, this was the first year since the inception of the BCS that those "bigger" bowls (Cotton, Peach, Fiesta, Orange, etc.) weren't all played on New Years Day or later. Playing the Fiesta and Orange bowls on New Year's Eve is essentially the equivalent of flying a banner in the stadium that reads "This is a Completely Meaningless Game", as December 31 has historically been reserved for junk bowls like the Liberty, etc.
I remember, pre-BCS, when there were only a handful of bowls played before December 31, a handful of games on December 31, and then something like 20 bowl games on New Year's day. Perhaps that is merely perception and not reality, but the thinking was always "the later the bowl, the bigger the deal." Then the BCS came around and some of the minor bowls started moving later and later. Just last year there was a bowl game between two mid-majors on January 7th or something ridiculous like that.
At any rate, I'm rambling. Back when the national champion could have come from any one of the big bowls, depending on how they shook out, those bowls did mean something. As soon as the BCS created the one-game national championship, they meant nothing.

I am the opposite. Because of the last few weeks leading up to the end of the season, I was far more aware and interested in teams I would have not interest in otherwise. Baylor, TCU, the Mississippi schools, Wisconsin. I actively watched for specific games, and watched many of those games because I had been paying attention to those teams prior to bowl season, and there were some good match-ups (some just on paper, many on the field).
If they go to 8, then they could possibly have four of the bowls act as the first round venues, two others as semis and then they would rotate the championship game like they're doing this year. Two bowls on New Year's Eve, two on New Years. Then the semis are on the Monday a week to a week and a half later. The final is a week later on the Monday after that.

I'm interested in the bigger bowls like the Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar, Rose and the like. I'm a lot less interested in what is going on today, especially after last nights games.
I find the new year 6 bowls more interesting this year. Watching TCU and Baylor's performance was particularly interesting this year and in previous years I would have been less interested. (Other than gambling interest which of course always makes it interesting)
("Both CFB playoff games had bigger TV audiences than yesterday's NFL playoff games, including one on network.")
And that is even with FSU playing like crap.

It is too bad that FSU played so bad that Oregon wasn't able to have any impact in how the game was played.
It's a darn shame!
I hope the buckeyes poop the bed too so that Oregon doesn't even have to try again.
